The Ole Miss sweep is the sole reason LSU isn’t hosting. Had they won just one game they would be hosting. It really is that simple. Don’t need to dig so deep.

I would like to see a midweek game or two each year between LSU and USM. Good RPI and non-conference SOS game for both - committee relied heavily on that this year.

We were on the cusp and missed the cut. Let's go play ball.

All you did was list excuses. How about the fact that we just lost too many games?

Us losing both mid-week games to LaTech (who lost their series to Southern Miss) didnt help. Throw in one win in the Arkansas and Ole Miss series' and a win at home against LaTech and I think we would have gotten to host a regional.

LSU finished ahead of Florida and Auburn in the conference standings even with the sweep and didn’t get to host due to RPI. They still would have been behind those two teams in RPI with one win over Ole Miss, so it’s unlikely they would be hosting in that scenario. It would have taken 2 wins to pass those teams and tie A&M for the division.

With those 3 wins, LSU would have tied A&M for the division and had a Top 10 RPI. They wouldn’t just be hosting. They would have been a Top 8 seed, probably the #5 A&M got instead.

The problem there is that neither of those Ole Miss or Arkansas wins would have won a series. We still would have been 5-5 in series. That's part of the reason we aren't hosting. The sweeps evened out our record a bit, but not blowing a game against A&M would have been bigger than salvaging a win against Arkansas or Ole Miss.

There's a reason why we play the teams we do in the non conference, especially early on, and why we rarely play any games on the road.

money.
we like to make money, and we make more of it when we have to pay pennies to Maine to come here instead of paying dollars to someone like TCU to come here.
The only reason we play at minutemaid is b/c it pays more than playing a home series.

as others have said, don't get swept by Ole Miss at home and we wouldn't be contemplating our OOC schedule on why we aren't hosting.

Eh seems like getting swept by Ole Miss hurt our RPI more than playing the games
you listed. Going into Ole Miss we were top 16 in RPI (I think 15) after that series we were in the 40’s. Don’t get swept by a ncaa bubble team would seem to be a good plan.

It most certainly did. We would have been better off RPI wise beating Ole Miss 2/3 and losing 2/3 to Vandy.

That's going to change starting next year. We've got 3 midweek games away from the Box against out of state teams that I know of, plus the Round Rock tournament.

UNC and Auburn both lost 5 conference series and they’re hosting.

A future SEC member that may be close to a tournament we're playing in.

I assume that would be the same week as the tournament. That would be a pretty big week.

Yeah I think it's the midweek game after RR.

Which is inconsistent with what the committee chairman said.

Which is part of the problem. The committee throws a dart at a board full of criteria and decides that's going to be what carries the day. But then they'll ignore it if it's convenient.

To make a John Cohen-proof resume you need:
Strong RPI
Strong non-con SOS
Winning record in conference
Winning record in series
Winning record on the road
Lots of top 50 RPI wins
Don't get swept

They were swept by Ole Miss in crunch time. Win one of those games and we’re hosting

I’m not sure of the context of that statement. It could be the rationale used to seed UNC and Auburn lower than their RPI would suggest, but it definitely was not part of the criteria used to assign host spots this year. The criteria they used are pretty clear (with the exception of Notre Dame). They set a minimum record against conference opponents of 2 games above .500 (eliminating Vandy, Wake and Georgia, but not Florida or Auburn), then took 16 of the 17 teams with the highest RPI meeting that criteria. ND seems to have been excluded to limit the ACC to 4 hosts and make room for a minor conference team.
