LSU football commit Derek Stingley recently received the title of “one of the best cornerback prospects ever.” So it comes as no surprise that the superstar from Baton Rouge (La.) Dunham School rose in the latest 247Sports rankings.

Cornerback is rarely a position to grace a top spot in high-school rankings. But Stingley is a different story as the new No. 2 recruit in the overall 2019 rankings.

quote:

He’s very fluid. When you look at previous first-round cornerbacks, he fits the profile very well. When I say profile, I mean how they perform on the field. A lot of them play offense. He’s scored touchdowns three or four different ways. He’s scored special teams touchdowns. He pops off the tape when you watch him. He tracks the ball.”

quote:

For Stingley, just look at the numbers if the film does not do enough for you. He has verified testing numbers that plenty of 21-year old NFL prospects would hunger to achieve. Stingley ran a 4.30 40-yard dash and 4.28 shuttle with a 42-inch vertical jump during an April football combine. Those will only improve as he enters a college strength and conditioning program in the SEC.

quote:

LSU received Stingley’s verbal commitment in June. Stingley is a common visitor to LSU, including a close-up view of the upset over Georgia in October.

“The energy was on level 10 from the offense, defense and special teams," Stingley said. "The fans were loud from the start to the finish. I would have to say my highlight was seeing the fans rush the field. Never seen that up close before. Seen it on TV, but never in real life. Overall it was an electric environment. It was an electric game from the start to the finish. The fans were loud, which I believe helped feed energy to the LSU players. Well played game on all phases. I'm glad that I had the chance to experience that game in Tiger Stadium."

As a JR Stingley was targeted 18 times and intercepted 11 passes. That's ridiculous. If you watch his film he highpoints the ball better than most WRs. He scores on KOs and PRs too and will likely be a dynamic returner for LSU. He's also a physical tackler in the mold of PP7. Stingley and Delpit should combine for one of the most dynamic DB combos in a very rich LSU DB history.

Holy shite on a shite sandwich.

If Orgeron convinced Greedy to stay somehow this backfield could rival '11.

LSU needs a new offensive coordinator to modernize the offense.

LSU needs a new offensive coordinator to modernize the offense.

LSU needs a new offensive coordinator to modernize the offense.

This is the only thing anybody should be talking about until the situation is corrected. LSU will never get over the hump until this is done. If it's not, we can all look forward to Les Miles v2.0. People at LSU monitor these message boards to gauge fan reaction and sentiment. Any topic that's not centered around the above, is a distraction from the goal.

I am very worried that Little Nicky will swoop in and "Convince/pay" Stingley to go to Bama. The fact that his dad was a pro may mean that money may not be a deciding factor on where he goes to school. Not confident until he signs.

Haha fur sure

If you targeted a WR 18 times he may not have 11 receptions.

His coach has repeatedly said he's all LSU and he's a man of his word. Said he wouldn't commit unless he was 100% sure that was where he was going.

It's not just that. It's what he brings in the return game. His ability to track the ball means he won't be a fumble risk on returns. His 4.3 speed gives you a TD threat everytime he touches the ball and the elite shuttle time means he is shifty enough to elude tacklers. I'm betting on him being the best returner at LSU since Matthieu. That can be the difference in close games.

Not happening. Bama wasn’t really even in the running. He doesn’t want to go there. This commitment is safe.

Claiborne, Mathieu, Reid, Simon, Taylor is still better.
Claiborne and Greedy are about equal and Delpit is better than Reid but after that the other three are better than what we will have next year and it isn't close.

Lol.

There's literally no chance in hell on this. Greedy is 1000% gone. Maybe he could convince Devin but Greedy is gone.

Stingley will take at least 2 punts back to the house next year.

Kid is 6'1" 190 runs a laser times 4.30 40 and has a 42" vertical.

Size, Speed and explosive.

Peterson clone.

Day 1 starter, top 5 draft pick, superstar.

He's truly as elite as it gets. Its unreal how good he is top to bottom. Has every physical tool you could want, a very smart football player, a hard worker, and a great kid.
