Searched baseball draft and didn't see anything, but don't you think they could wait a month or so before the ML draft. Players drafted early might sit back and just worry about how much money, don't hurt yourself. MLB season is almost half over, whats the hurry.

College players aren't the only ones being drafted. The pro teams still need to salvage part of the same year that the players are drafted and get them into their system. It's not ideal for the college players...but, it is what it is.

I see where the first pick for Houston signed out of Stanford. Stanford not being in the CWS, brings me to this question. Players that are in the CWS, are they and can they begin the negotiation process and sign a contract while playing in it?

Technically they can begin the negotiation process, but traditionally the team will wait until the player is finished with his season. Definitely can't sign.. They immediately lose amateur status and would be ineligible.

My thoughts exactly. I wish they'd change it.

They really do need to change it.. Also need to make non American players enter into the draft process.

It used to be right in the middle of the CWS then they moved the CWS back for the northern teams to move their schedule back.

I'm not sure why MLB can't move it in the middle of the week between the sub regionals and the CWS.

I don't know--but the thought occurred to me that the draft being before the CWS gives the players who did well during the regular season the change to choke during the CWS, or perhaps to shine if their teams succeed.

only 8 teams play in CWS 1000s of players are drafted and maybe 20 to 30 of those players are playing in the CWS. I don't think the MLB will change their draft just to accommodate 30 people or so.

But another thing they want to get guys into their system sooner rather than later. There are already hundreds of guys drafted 2 weeks ago who are already playing baseball for single a short season teams. They do it probably to best fit their schedules and systems not colleges.

one thing I wish they change is make it during the week.

its not fair to the players to be in the middle of a game and hear that they have just been drafted. Do it on Tuesday through Thursday night between the Supers and CWS or Regionals and Supers, guys can have the typical house part to see if they get drafted and celebrate them being drafted instead of being oh that's great I have to go and get a huge hit to keep us alive in the post season.

Dumbest phrase ever.

To answer the question, it's because MLB doesn't give a darn if the draft interferes with anything.

It needs to be Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday on the week of the Supers instead of Thurs-Sat

I doubt any college kids can afford to pay off the millions they would owe so No.
