One last post and I’m done talking about the past. College basketball is nothing like what it was 20 years ago. Far less talent. Not even worth debating.
LSU lost a close game to a loaded Georgia Tech team. Kenny Anderson might be the best point guard we have ever faced. 4x All-NYC - the first player ever to do that. Top prospect coming out of high school - over Shaq. CJ fouled out - something he never did. Was not like some colossal failure - we got outplayed that night. We beat many other excellent teams during that time and played a consistently high level basketball.

Saban would never be caught talking on his phone about shady recruiting things. He is too smart for that. That’s what assistants do and you just play dumb when they get busted. That was my issue with that whole situation. Wasn’t that Wade may be cheating, but you yourself were the one that was caught discussing the things over the phone. I can live with shady recruiting tactics because I know LSU is not a clean program in any of the major sports. Recruiting 101 is the assistants do the dirty work so the head coach can have deniability.

I agree. It was unbelievable Wade didn't anticipate that one of the dozens of recruiting middle-men he and other coaches communicate with would be working for the FEDERAL BUREAU OF INVESTIGATIONS and secretly recording a private phone calls for purposes of a criminal investigation. I mean hell, how many times over the course of history has the FBI conducted a criminal investigation into basketball recruiting? There must exactly ZERO instances of that ever happening before. How foolish of Wade not to foresee that the Department of Justice and FBI had so little going on that they would investigate college basketball recruiting.
Dawkins is not the ONLY middle-man in the seedy world of college basketball recruiting. He's one of thousands and I PROMISE YOU HC's do talk to those guys. Wade just had the extreme misfortune of talking to the wrong guy at the wrong time in a completely unprecedented situation.
But hey, hindsight is always 20/20. So how dumb could a coach be to not foresee a scenario that has LITERALLY never occurred?
And the ONLY reason college football HC's haven't been caught on wiretap is because the DOJ/FBI hasn't (that we know of) decided to waste their time and taxpayer funds to investigate college football recruiting. This ENTIRE thing was nothing more than a easy investigation/case pursued SOLELY for attention by a longtime attention seeking district (Southern Dist. of NY) of the US Attorney's office. All it netted was a colossal waste of funds to get some CBB middle-men and assistant coaches minor prison sentences.

I don't hate Will Wade. I like him.
However, the Cult of Will Wade on this board is creepy. They think he's already done more for LSU basketball than Dale Brown did just because Dale Brown said some dumb things, and that's just not rational.

BC LSU's "not supposed to be good at basketball" despite they're one of the better programs in SEC history due to Dale Brown, among the best programs not to play in the national championship game, it's kind of weird the hate for Will Wade because he's actually competent at what he does
