Why is LSU seemingly a stepping stone for players & coaches?

Personally I think Aranda is making a mistake by leaving. Some coaches just make better assistants than head coaches. He doesn't seem to have the personality that you see in most head coaches, and he's not known as a strong recruiter which seems to be a necessary requirement as in Orgeron, Saban, Dabo, etc. Back to the topic, take Clemson for instance. I've not heard anything about Venables wanting to become a head coach as good as he is, and as for players, by the second or third year of college our players are dying to get into the NFL as opposed to Clemson's Trevor Lawrence who could probably be a first-round pick.

Do you think Saban doesn't lose coordinators, who become head coaches at other schools?

Do you think Saban doesn't lose players to the draft yearly?

Aranda will be fine. Lots of talent over there and his name alone will attract some good ones.

ummm...Trevor is not draft eligible and will leave next year to be that "first-round pick"

Because LSU is a stepping stone to the NFL. Being an assistant coach is a stepping stone to being a head coach. It’s how the system is in place.

It happens to all championship teams. Look at all the Saban minions running around. Pretty much everyone in the SEC has worked under him

You mean, Trevor Lawrence, who isn't eligible to enter the NFL draft, but who 100% certainly will next year?

Nice comparison, jack arse.

Saban loses assistants all the time.

It’s the cost of success.

Venables is not a common situation. Go look at how often Saban has to find new coordinators. Don't take the one coordinator that is content with not being a head coach to compare to our team.

Lawrence is a true sophomore and will be training for the NFL draft the day after his last game next season.

Venables does not want to be a HC
Some guys like the $1.5m and not deal with the media
Aranda may not have the personality for the job he just took. Waco TX is a pretty low key media market and you can keep a low profile. May work out for him

You have to understand that Clemson is not like LSU, Bama, UGA, or even Ohio State. Barring chaos, they are pretty much guaranteed a spot in the CFP every year because their conference is so weak. Also, Venables has been with Dabo for 8 years. I suppose he's comfortable in his role as DC, at least for now. Who knows what he'll do in the future.

If you get a head coaching opportunity at a Power 5 school, you take it. No question

Why are you so stupid, is the better question. Lawrence is not even draft eligible. Brent V has sons that are on the team so he will not leave until they are done playing.

The better question overall is why do we have so many dumb asses in our fan base that don't understand basic college football.

First, we don't know what kind of head coach he will be.

Second, both guys who have left took promotions and will be in a higher position, making more money. The equivalent positions at LSU were already filled.

Do you think Lawrence is going to stay a fourth year after next year? Or more likely, are you too dumb to realize true sophs can't go to the NFL?

Another misinformed post from the Pianoman. Lawerence is not draft eligible. Our assistants are not leaving for lateral moves. LSU has positioned these guys for HC jobs and NFL opportunities.

Venables has interviewed for jobs in the past and most reports said he doesn’t interview particularly well. Add that he makes more than a lot of CFB coaches and his son is currently a LB at Clemson, he doesn’t have a lot of incentive to leave right now.

As for Aranda, he was considered a rising star when we hired him. He had a good, relatively long run here, considering the continual turnover in college coaching these days.

Also, at your Trevor Lawrence comment.

Happens to every elite program in college and NFL. It sucks, but I trust O to make a slam dunk hire. Would be funny as shite if we nabbed Grantham from Florida or make them outbid us.
