Because college gymnastics is the last step for gymnasts
Most are too old for that level of gymnastics

I am rather late to this discussion. And I don't know what I'm talking about, which is why I am asking the question. Suni Lee won gold at the 2020 Olympics after Biles dropped out with twisties.

It was my understanding that Lee enrolled at Auburn and was competing for Auburn. If that is wrong, correct me. If "Olympic," "elite" gymnasts are so much better than NCAA gymnasts, why didn't Lee beat Bryant to win the all-round title in the last NCAA championships? Was there something that prevented them from competing against each other.

Someone educate me. But, please don't just Bryant isn't "elite" or "Olympic" gymnasts or better than NCAA gymnasts.

reason why Alieah is competing for the Philippines is because it is easier to make their team (Think Mondo Duplantis).

Mondo didn’t leave because it was an easier route

I’m ALMOST positive Suni Lee didn’t compete at all this past year for Auburn. She had some sort of serious illness she was recovering from.

BUT that’s just my recollection. I might be hazy on the facts

You are correct.

Sunil Lee left Auburn in April, 2023 after she was diagnosed with a kidney disease. She had planned on leaving Auburn at the end of the school year, to begin training for the Olympics, but cut it short by a month.

She had to leave Auburn so that she could train effectively for the Olympics as the NCAA is very strict on limited training allowed and she needed to train 10-15 hours more per week than the ncaa allows. Plus, she had to change her routines to Olympic level and not ncaa.

It is also a case of who is having a better day. If you are less consistent on the day of the competition, you will not do as well. LSU was helped at championships by other teams faltering. LSU was consistent and hit when needed. Other teams did not. Haleigh is consistently ON. Suni had some troubles during the regular season of college and at the Olympics.

She didn't train as an elite gymnast. I don't know what that means, but that's what has been said. I know there are different levels of gymnasts, but I don't really understand all of that.

I believe the Elite protocol is longer routines and stricter scoring among some of the differences. Scoring is also different and not capped at 10.00.

1 Suni Lee was not enrolled at Auburn for the school year 2023-2024, therefore she did not compete in NCAA gymnastics.

“elite” gymnastics scores significantly different than ncaa gymnastics. NCAA grades on precision and not difficulty, therefore ncaa routines are much easier than elite routines. You get a higher score for performing a very precise routine, not a difficult one.

International elite gymnasts grade on difficulty + precision. The routines are much more difficult to perform than in the NCAA. You can’t get a high score simply by doing a very precise, easy routine like in college. There must be extremely difficult to do moves and skills in your routine in order to get a high score.

Pretty sure Suni Lee had to drop out of college for several months due to health reasons.... once it was time to go back she just trained olympics instead.

female competitors are very young.

Biles is 27, Suni Lee is 21, and Jordan Chiles is 23. I don’t think the age argument holds much weight in this case

I watched that Biles special on either Netflix or Max but say what you want about her she is the GOAT. I love Bryant but the Olympic gymnasts are unmatched for skills.
