Why don't we blitz more often?

It shouldn't be a problem since we have a pretty damn good secondary. No reason for a QB to have that much time to pass against us. I would feel different if the secondary was weak. QB are never the same under pressure. Franks folded when he did get some heat.

Lack of blitz package is yet another large reason we lost

We blitz a good bit.

They have run a good bit of Delayed blitz with DW and Delpit. Problem lately is not getting a good pass rush and Blitz being picked up. A lot of the time with white and delayed blitz is the Dline will stunt and the DL didn't chip the OL or the OL didn't double any DL so White hasn't come free.

I'd like to see more overload blitz or more than one extra man blitz.

In short, LSU has blitzed a good bit, just not being exotic enough with it. down vote away

We can't just rely on the DL to provide pressure. Has to be more personnel that can be used to bring the heat especially in given passing downs. Force them to pass short with tight man to man coverage on the corners. That's basically what everybody else does to us when putting pressure.

Yea delayed blitzes have not been working too well. There were times Franks had time to pump fake and Burrow has no time. Watch FL and see where their blitzes came from. Undersized fast guys

Missing two of our best pass rushers and when we send Delpit, we are out of our best safety in coverage.

We blitz but not an awfully lot

I do wonder if Aranda is concerned about getting torched downfield.

I think that might be his concern considering the offense has trouble at times putting up points. When we do blitz though it seems like forever to get to the QB. Zero sacks against FL makes no sense.

I don't know about blitzing, but I do know we did a poor job bringing Franks down when we got in the backfield. We hurried him 9 times, no sacks. In contrast, they hurried Burrow 8 times with 5 sacks. It seemed like we had the same issues against the LA Tech QB, too.

I think you can count on 2 hands the amount of times we've brought more than 5 people at a time this season. I don't get it.

It was UFs worst graded offensive line performance this year. We had 0 sks and 14 QB pressures.

I'm not arguing the point you are making, that we should blitz more.

However, I disagree with the line about Franks folding. 14 pressures is alot, he did the opposite of fold.

Which brings me back to your point about blitzing- Franks saw what he was coached to see. It didn't rattle him because the pressure we brought was expected... predictable.

When White or looper inside blitzed, OL knew what to look for as well as Franks. And the OL (graded lowest so far) couldn't handle it, Franks knew what to do. It's one thing for the OL to lose pocket, but when the QB knows it's coming and what he's looking at his 'pocket presence' and 'internal clock' works like some black magic.

Compare that to how our QB handled it. He was suprised many times. He got pressure when, and from places, he wasn't expecting it. Often over his left side, and it affected him more because of that. His clock wasn't shorter, his rolls were hesitant, and his outlets weren't there.

I thought one of the main advantages of a 34 defense was the ability to do creative blitz packages with linebackers.

Don’t be surprised if you see the blitz packages increase dramatically this week with these GA QBs completing 70%+.

There were quite a few blitzes that got picked up by Florida blockers.

We haven’t needed to for the most part. Franks finished <50%. We hit him 11 times. Just didn’t get a sack.

Having said that, Mullen kept us out of nickel/dime personnel groupings by using heavy personnel on offense a lot of the game for two main reasons:

1.) Nickel is where we get exotic with pressure. We also get to the QB quicker.
2.) Heavy personnel meant we played Baskerville more.

Mullen knows what he has at QB and knew what we had at LB due to attrition. It was a brilliant move. Aranda has scheme for days, but he can’t scheme around personnel issues.

Missing Chiasson forces his hand a bit. But losing Phillips makes it exponentially more difficult to scheme his way around attrition.

Lack of pressure from front 4 will prob force us to blitz more.
