Instead of busting his balls, maybe you could just buy him this glove.

Because grown men can catch a ball with one hand using the gloves that are specifically designed for outfielders ?

Yeah, his 3 career errors backs that up.

I would say…if you’re catching everything one handed…don’t change. If you’re dropping some balls one-handed..try helping with the other hand

Because the throwing hand restricts the glove arm and the catch. How many times in your life have you seen an OF catch a ball with his bare hand after it pops out the glove? Extremely rare, if ever. So catch with one hand above the head, and exchange the ball into the throwing hand at center of chest.

This method kinda stops being taught by the time you’re 12

There really isn't a downside to using both hands. I noticed Crews used his bare hand to secure the ball hit to the wall that very same inning.

Why do professional football players use one hand to catch a football? Because they can.

Sure there is, and they've been outlined in this thread.

If you need to use 2 hands to catch a fly ball, you don’t even deserve to play high school ball
Posted on 3/16/22 at 3:55 pm to BrookhavenBengal
Because they think they are good!

This isn't t ball dude. That "use two hands" stuff is for amateurs. It's not the best way to catch a fly ball, and really shouldn't be taught at any level.
This is incredibly dumb. You realize that having both hands up isn’t just for securing the ball right? With runners on base and less than two outs having both hands up let’s you get a quick transfer and throw on a runner that’s tagging up. Your take is bad.

The correct way is catch, with shoulders square (when possible), bring glove hand to throwing hand with it in position to immediately start the throw.
Maybe it is correct but it is certainly not how it’s being taught at nearly every level
Didn’t play in the pros so I can’t comment there. But OF in MLB certainly use both hands as well. Maybe not every time.

No it’s not
Well maybe. But prob because they assume you’ve learned to use two hands by the time you’re 13+

Because the time to pull the ball down to your chest, transfer then bring the ball back up to throw makes it very hard to throw a runner out. Both hands up, catch ball arm side, quick transfer and throw. Glove/ball never dip below the throwing shoulder. No time wasted. Can be the difference between an out and a run.

It’s really dependent on skill level and situation.

quote:One thing using two hands does is help you find the ball. Using one hand is harder for your natural hand eye coordination to find the ball. It doesn’t physically help you catch it, but it absolutely helps connect your hands to the ball to use your second hand
All those pictures you sent if the ball hits the heel of the glove the second hand isn’t helping them

BS. You catch and bring in your throwing hand to cover and have immediate access to make a subsequent throw, if needed. Why wouldn’t you? What are you doing with the other hand anyway.
