Although there are many more teams than sports like Lacrosse or Hockey, it's largely regional in popularity and barring a few exceptions success is found on coasts. Culturally its just not part of the sports calendar as it is in the south. I guess it's similar to hockey in that the best of the best traditionally just went on to the pros

The simple answer is that all of the best players go straight to the minors out of high school while only a few top prospects end up at a college program.

It's more entertaining by far compared to MLB. Plus games are faster. It's a good ?

Because MLB is almost as boring to watch as PGA golf. They need better ratings so they talk it up.

Same thing with the weather channel acting like the world is ending when a small tropical depression develops way out in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.

The fact that most of the best players get drafted at 18 years old?

Look at all the newer, bigger college ballparks coming up around the country. Give it a few more years and we will see a rise in national attention.

Lol no. That's ignorant.

You think the other sports are just going to quit progressing with stadiums and upgrades?

Fans nowadays (and not just millenials) want to be entertained, and young kids who play want to actually move around and do something. Too much standing around in baseball - it's just the nature of the sport.

A good personal example - I live it Atlanta and am 53, and none of my friends care much about baseball. We loosely follow the Braves because it's summer and nothing else is happening, but once football season starts, there's literally zero talk about baseball. ZERO.

Which is ironic because football is the definition of waiting for somehting to happen. 10 seconds of action followed by a minute or more of standing around. Rinse and repeat. And I love football. But nonstop action it is not.

Majority voted for Hillary.

Majority like Jay-Z and Beiber.

Majority believe that the War of 1812 was between the north and the south.

Majority believe that America's favorite past-time is watching "Survivor".

Majority know more about Ariana Grande lyrics than the sport that turned American into what it is.

College baseball ratings are growing - having some of the regional games, all the super regional games and every CWS game on tv helps build the product and allows fans to get invest in the storylines.

NCAA basketball is largely the same way - most people that watch the tourney rarely/never watch regular season games.

The college baseball product is better now - good hitters can get over and so can good pitchers. It's not like the high scoring of the mid 90s or the no-scoring of UCLA 2013. The game is growing.

The minor league system puts a vast buffer between college baseball and pro baseball. I think this is a major reason for the low interest

Man lets Address the elephant in the room. A sport takes of nationally when you can bet on it! If you couldn't bet on College Football and College Basketball these sports would be regional too. The NFL, MLB, NBA, NCAAF and MBB will always have a following as long as you can bet on them. To my knowledge Vegas doesn't out lines on college baseball. The day that happens watch it take off nationally.

Subjective

And subjective.
As someone else mentioned, tons of standing around in football.

Are you a soccer fan? That's non stop action there. Much more than football.

I didn't say "non-stop" action, just more action.

Huge difference with football is that, although there's a break between plays, with the no huddle concept today, teams are at the line quicker and running many more plays than decades ago. And the rules have been tweaked to allow more passing, more offense, and more scoring.

Plus, let's be honest, one football play has 22 guys flying around the field and colliding. And every play (usually) is different, and usually (unless it's a Mile/Cam offense) we don't know what type of play is coming.

Baseball is one guy standing in the same place, throwing to a guy crouching in the same place. And a large majority of the time, the batter doesn't put the ball in play.

I realize I'm in a baseball thread with baseball fans, but please, it's pretty hard to deny that baseball doesn't actually have much action. It just doesn't.

not sure I buy the talent argument. 18 of the 30 first round picks in this years MLB draft were college players. Yes the cream of the crop high school kid gets drafted and go pro, but college teams are loaded with high round talent.

There is also some data that shows that higher percentage of college players drafted will make the "show". Which is very understandable since they just spent three years maturing and playing high quality baseball as opposed to getting flushed out of the minors like a large percentage of the hs draft picks.

My opinion is that college and A ball are essentially the same. The best in both move up to the next level, the lower talented guys are three/four years and done.
