Why does power hitter like Dylan Crews bat first?

I'm a newbie to the Tiger baseball scene so maybe this has come up many times before. Apologize, if so.

To ensure that he gets as many at bats as possible.

To more more ABs of the course of the year. The lead off batter is only the lead off batter the first inning of the game. Even in MLB you or seeing more of the old school 3-4 hole hitters batting 1-2.

He didnt until recently. Last two games that rotation looks to be working however.

He’s constantly on base and over the course of an entire season it could mean up to 30 to 50 additional ABs.
Really he should be batting 2nd. You want on base % to dictate it without sacrificing slugging. Dugas, Crews, Berry would be the ideal 1,2,3

Purely anecdotal but it seems to me that he’s been at his best (both this year and last year) when he’s been in the lead off spot.

Jobert was trying to beat the shift by bunting it to third but didn’t get it down the line enough.

Except for pretty much all of last year. He seems to be most comfortable there and thrives off of it. I think I’d keep him there till he leaves. If Ronald Acuña and Mike Trout can hit leadoff in the bigs, Dylan Crews can here. It’s not like Jacob Berry is leading off. Dylan is probably the best base runner on the team too.

Yeah I don’t care about “conventional wisdom” in this situation.

Looked fine there last night, don't see a reason to change.

Baseball people finally started to track metrics. Your top hitters should always bat 1-2 to get them as many ABs possible. Also it’s nice when you turn the lineup over later in the game you have your stud hitter at the plate in a big spot.

Great OBP , more at bats, get the hit party started.

I feel like it sets a tone for the team. Jump out to an early lead, keep the momentum from the start.

Great reasons posted, it also puts Pearson in the 2 hole. It’s easier for a LH to hit behind the runners. So if Crews gets on, it’s easier to move him to 3rd on a base hit.

The guy just seems to love leadoff. He must have about 5 leadoff HR’s in his career at LSU. Impressive since he doesn’t leadoff that many games.

Best hitter should hit leadoff

Same reason why Tari Eason was our best player and our 6th man...when a guy gets comfortable in a role, you leave him there and let him work.
Crews has hit everywhere from 1-4 and he's settled in as the leadoff and gets more at bats than anybody else.
