Why do we seem to never throw it deep to Tre Wilson?

Wasn’t that a big part of his appeal? Speedster than can take the top off a defense?

Maybe we’re calling it and Sam just never lets it rip? But surprised how little we use the deep ball.

Probably Sam hasn't been refined with accuracy on deep throws this year. Also partly why we don't throw a ton of corner passes he's not very accurate on the 1 on 1s to the outside on deep balls. Probably going to get better here as the season goes along as he already has. Would be awesome if they surprise Auburn with this because I guarantee they're going to shell defense the middle of the field and try to force him to throw on the corners. Someone this year is going to get raked over the coals with Sam throwing outside the hashes on the corners because most of his passes are over the middle.

One part of the offense that's really lacking tbh. Philly wright looked like he might be that guy and then immediately got hurt

We really will need to hit some deep balls in these upcoming games

We don’t throw it deep much at all. I think we have QB limitations that are hindering the full playbook

Because he’s small and get pressed off the line and doesn’t get great separation vertically. And the OL doesn’t block well enough for our guys to get vertical downfield. We’ve gone to him downfield a few times, and they’ve all been 50/50 balls basically. I think he’s come down with one, almost came down with another, and the rest weren’t close.

His game is more horizontal. Get him the ball on the edge, close to the LOS and let him turn it up. I think they’re trying to add that piece to the offense.

I also agree with this on the OL play. They're pretty awful in pass coverage especially right side. Sam got killed on several plays against Miss State. I saw Davis completely whiff blocks multiple times with quick moves.

Our OL pass pro is actually quite good with Satterwhite instead of Bo. Bo is a better run blocker though.

Tell me you don’t watch the games without telling me you don’t watch the games.

Ok. How many passes did Sam complete (in the air) over 20 yards this weekend? I’ll wait for you to find one.

His accuracy over 20 yards is 25% (8 of 32)

Also, he did not complete a pass in the air over 20 yards against State. We get yards on slants, screens, via YAC.

We are limited in downfield passing.

I watch the games plenty. Like he said above, they throw quicker passes for 2 reasons: the Gs and RT is not good and sam struggles with accuracy on corners for deep throws with the 1 on 1 contested balls. Davis has improved from last year but he's still bad at times on pass blocking. I don't know how anyone watched the Miss State game and didn't seem Sam get killed under several throws. He just was good under pressure.

Part of that is because of heavy wind in the game. Kiffin schemed that right with the weather in mind.

Lane puts a bigger premium on completing easier passes to keep the tempo up. Either way, Tre is more of a YAC threat than deep threat. He needs more opportunities with the ball in space.

Our OL is the weakest group on the team. They don’t give the QB much time, hence all the short to intermediate passes we see. Weis basically has to scheme around our OL play and has really done a pretty good considering.

Good point. When we are already inefficient on deep balls, wind makes it not worth trying.

I do not. Sam is our best option. All I’m saying is that he’s not good at throwing the deep ball. I’m hoping this is just a development issue but he is in Year 4 so this may just be what we get and have to scheme around.

More like we have OL limitations that are hindering the full playbook.
