They are.

and you people saying Saban wasn't hated at LSU must be rather young.
there were also quite a few tired of his annual flirtation with the NFL...

Haven't they been mentioned as title contenders most every year since winning back in 2003? Hell

You win some and you lose some. FACT.

That may very well be, but no one stipulated "back half of the season." FACT.
The comment was made to sound as if "never, ever, ever does LSU even get any national mention of even having a football team let alone maybe one day dreaming of playing for a national title."

The run and punt offense...the UAB loss...there are a million times I heard that he isn't SEC material. I love how people forget. We were ready to run that guy out of town, which was a big reason why he left. Nothing was good enough for LSU even then, and I'd bet he'd tell that to your face if he wouldn't be strung up for it.
catastrophe syndrome

normally the number of teams being mentioned as contenders tends to dwindle as the season goes on...really quite strange how that works

A lot of people didn't like Saban, but that doesn't mean they wanted him gone.

Since Charlie Mac, LSU fans have always hated and bitched about their coach, and said he was the worst and we can get a better coach. This even included the Sainted Saban until he left then the Sabanites elevated him to Godlike status. Why can't Tiger fans shut the F@#%@ up and realize that we have it better than almost all of the other universities in the nation.
Some of our fanbase just sucks, period. They are just miserable SOB's. Remember all of the people whining about losing game 2 to Texas in the CWS ?
Of course, some of these dorks have their heads shoved so far up Saban's arse, even if Miles goes 14-0 next year and wins the BCS title 51-0 they'll complain about the Tennessee game in 2005.

Because we could have it better than we have now. Quit your outdated LSU is a mom and pop local football thing. There is no reason LSU shouldn't be mentioned in the same breath as UF, USC, and UT almost every year as a NC contender
Are you a retard? We will more than likely finish in the top 10 again and ahead of the almighty USC. When have we not been mentioned as a national contender in the last 3 years at the beginning of the year. We won the national championship in 07'. Would you rather us be Florida St., Notre Dame, Michigan, ect.?

UAB
damn right we were pissed. I was a lot more pissed at Josh Booty for throwing that interception that ultimately cost LSU the game. with all that said that was in saban's first year. the very next week we knocked off Tennessee and UAB was forgotten.

Anyone that was pissed about this one is/was a blooming idiot. we were lucky to be in the game in the first place considering we had lost so many games at the end of the season with marcus randall and were heavy underdogs to texas. most LSU fans didn't give us much of a chance in that one. i know i didn't.

I don't know about all that, the being lucky to be there part. LSU was 1 point away from being in the SEC Championship game that year, but thanks to the prevent (the win) defense against Arkansas they lost.
Though the team did lose 3 of their last 5 games that season, two of which were very embarrassing. Texas was by far the better team in that contest.

LSU fans were trying to get Saban to quit after the UAB loss, and during his second year here, he started 3-3 and after the loss to Ol Miss, EVERYONE wanted his butt out the door.

probably true. i just remember a lot of bitching when he was here.
most people on here talk about him like he did no wrong. but it wasn't like that when he was here.

Being in the preseason NC talk is pointless. The point is that our team should be in a position where we aren't dismissed from serious NC talk 4 weeks into every season.
It happened 08, 09, and will probably happens in 2010

which more or less was the OP's point.
Ask Nick how loved he felt by the LSU fanbase after that 2001 Ole Miss game.

Giving Saban a pass for the UAB debacle, while holding Miles feet to the fire for losing to a then ranked SEC team in OT in his 2nd game ever.
