Because he was able to purchase a two story home at a fraction of the price he would pay in Miami

Seriously though, I do remember an interview with Skip and his wife and she was talking about how impressed she was with the house.

we are very lucky Bertman didn’t leave because Dean penny pinched on the baseball program
Then Bertman penny pinched Nick Saban and the new "Alex Box" as LSU AD.

I'm glad Miami dropped the ball on this one.

Brodhead was a good AD. His biggest sin was uncovering the corruption and theft of the LSU athletic department. Getting rid of him led LSU into the dark ages.

Skip made Saban the highest paid coach in the country.

Nick was always going to scratch the NFL itch.
was just a matter of time for the right offer to be presented.
Miami doubled his LSU contract and gave him complete control of an NFL team.

LSU wasn’t beating that offer.

Broadhead did a lot of good for LSU athletics. His crown jewels are getting Skip Bertman and Pat Henry. Titles galore. Broadhead is the father of the LSU baseball program.

Bertman wanted to be the head coach at Miami. He had played there and spent all of his years as an assistant there. While other assistants in that era were becoming head coaches in their early thirties, he was still an assistant as he was nearing 40, because he was so loyal. The then-Miami head coach Ron Fraser had been very successful and was expected to move on up to A.D. there, but that just wasn't happening. Bertman finally caved in and applied for the UF job, but they wouldn't give him the time of day. Brodhead had spent a good bit of time in Miami and was familiar with a lot of the athletic personnel around there. Brodhead began looking for a new head baseball coach and people all over the country, not just in the Miami area, were saying that Bertman was the best and brightest available coach around who was still serving at the assistant level. Brodhead reached out to Bertman to see if he had any interest after the 1982 season. Bertman was a little familiar with the LSU campus, because Miami had played a series there in 1977, and he felt that it had untapped potential. However, Bertman was still holding out hope for the Miami job then (Fraser had just won the NCAA title, so it was now or never for him to be promoted to A.D.) and besides Brodhead hadn't yet fired the baseball staff, so technically the position wasn't even yet open and Bertman said he wasn't interested. After the 1983 campaign, this time Brodhead immediately fired the baseball staff and reached out to Bertman again, and I guess that Bertman saw that someone really wanted him badly and he wasn't getting any younger, so he went with it.

To think without Brodhead

If they would have kept Brodhead LSU would have been a football power house a decade earlier than it happened. They guy could hire talented coaches.
