if he were to go after kiffin. wonder if he could develop wins to championships. every coach that leaves saban is not as good as they once were under saban. look at past history over 15 yrs. it every coach under saban at the school he is at does well as long they under saban. so the answer is not always a saban assistant. saban gets the best offensive line and the qb has more time than other teams

Because he's hiring a spread OC. And this happened since he said he wanted to recruit pro style QB's

Do me a favor and go find the last time Saban lost to a pro-style offense. Don't worry I'll wait

Hopefully not just pandering to the fan base, if that's it, we are doomed.

Because that is what it took to get the job.

Kiffin has always been a good play caller. He's just failed as ahead coach.

The spread is easier on a qb in every aspect over a pro style.

It's easier to teach. Modify. Simplify. Remove hard decisions.

A pro style system is hard to learn and master. There are very qbs can can master it in under a year or two of experience. That's simply too slow in today's game.

Don't confuse the spread with air raid.

I don't dispute any of this. The question was why did he a 55 year old 30 plus year veteran of the coaching ranks suddenly in a matter of weeks change his preference of the style of QB he wants. I said its because that is what it took to win over Aleva and the board and get the job.

Your guess is as good as mine on that point.

Could be that. Could be he changed his philosophy after consulting with people who know offense..he does know a lot of smart people he's willing to listen to if there is anything to credit him with. Could be he looked at the competition and the best way to consistently compete. Could be he looked at the qb talent in our area and what systems they'd want to play in. Could be he looked around and decided of his possible OCs he wanted to bring in a guy to run the spread because there aren't many great OCs to even run a prostyle.

I get everyone's concerns I do. Miles should have recruited pro style guys. Square peg round hole.

I just simply don't know the end game here. Could be stupid. Or we could be underestimating the guy.

I imagine that he changed his tune because now he knows who the head coach is for the 2017 season.

Until he knew who the HC was going to be we hand Miles freaking Brennen committed and he is pro style. Its not like he was in a position to dictate what type of offense the new HC was going to run.

Since cam newton no qb has beat bama running the ball manziel Kelly bo Wallace kordell jones and even nick marshall have all beat bama by throwing from the pocket. This myth that you need a running qb is totally false. Go check the numbers of all the QBS that've beat bama recently none have run the ball they've all had big passing games.

And I'm sure the threat of them taking off and running the ball had nothing to do with them having a successful passing day against that defense

I think that's why they call it a dual threat.
