Why did Les Miles get so much hate for 1/9/12?

Nobody, and I mean NOBODY, could've led that LSU team to a win against Alabama on 1/9, not even a Nick Saban clone. Les Miles was put in an almost unprecedented and impossible situation (Bobby Bowden's FSU had to rematch Florida in 1996). We exhausted our load in the Game of the Century. There was nothing we could've done.

Our greatest team ever's fate was sealed the moment Jeff Woody walked into the endzone in 2OT on November 18, 2011. It's horribly unfair, but it's the way things turned out.

I hate that Les didn't even attempt to try something different

I didn't care if he put Jarrett Lee in and throws pick sixes, Jefferson wasn't going to win us the game that day

Go down trying for fricks sake

I was proud of the that season, it was historic. Its shame that the last game of the year put a stain on the entire thing.

Because he inexplicably left Jefferson in the game and refused to even try and play Jarrett Lee

wrong. Les was a bozo. You're saying Belichick couldn't have made us competitive? There are plenty of coaches who could have made that offense respectable.

This is my issue as well. He stayed with what wasn't working the entire game. I'll always love that season but he stuck to the gameplan and refused to deviate from it.

Anyway, that's done.

If Orgeron went undefeated then got blown away 21-0 in a NCG rematch against Bama and people on this board said the same about him, you’d lose your shite.

He got hate from me for completely kicking Jarrett Lee to the side despite his success in favor of Jordan Jefferson who was suspended according to his own actions and wasn't having any special performances as the starting QB.

The title game was a culmination of two seasons of civil war between Jarrett Lee and Jordan Jefferson and the entire thing reared its ugly head at the worst possible time against the worst possible opponent in rival Alabama with Nick Saban as HC.

We already beat everyone and should claim the championship. I don't care about that exhibition mockery anymore.

Put each team's resume, even including the sugar bowl, up against each other's.

Still comes out to 13-1 LSU, 12-1 Bama.

SoS to LSU
Conference champ to LSU
Best road win 9-6 LSU

If you think LSU loss that game because Lee didn't play, you are smoking rope.

Miles was the coach and he catches the crap. Simple as that.

My perception of it, as well as many other tiger fans, was that he was content laying down and putting up zero points than pulling his ‘pet’ JJ who was having the worst game I’ve ever witnessed. I mean seriously after 3 quarters you are down 15-0. That’s not an insurmountable deficit but you just keep trying the same shite that an 8 year old girl could’ve realized wasn’t going to work. He abandoned the game plan in favor of 3 yards and a cloud of dust and never gave JL a chance. I was there and felt he deserved every ounce of hate he got for it tbh.

That's not what I'm saying at all.

My point is that we had the same gameplan in that game as we did in the SEC championship game against UGA and to an extent, the final season game vs. Arkansas.

There was no plan B. That's what I was getting at. He stayed with wasn't working through the entire game.

And I'm not harping on the guy at all. He's one of the nicest guys I've ever met. And that was a sour note to end such a spectacular season on but I'm over it.

That's a fair enough statement.

I don’t think anyone is saying we win if Lee did play but LSU could not move the ball period with Jefferson under center. Bama made sure he wasn’t running, forced him to throw.

You have to try something different. Look at this years national title game. Saban decided to bench his starting QB for a true freshman because he Hurts and the offense weren’t moving the ball all game. It paid off for them

We will never know because we didn’t try

Exactly. What you've been trying for the first 3 quarters hasn't worked, Saban knew Jefferson was going to scramble so they stayed on their assignments and kept him contained, forced JJ to throw the ball.

If whatever is tried doesn't work, then it doesn't work but at least you'll know.

Not years later, "hmmm, wonder if we should've tried (fill in blank)"

But like I said, it's over and done, no point in reliving that game.

There is no greater example of why les deserves hate for that game than Saban pulling Hurts for Tua. Les simply didn’t want to hurt JJ’s feelings and was willing to put up a ZERO in the biggest game in school history.
