Soft

Isn't that characteristic of this team. The passers are routinely bouncing balls off receivers hands and out of bounds, or into defenders hands.

A vocal contingent of the fanbase was expecting some one and done superstar with Efton. Instead they saw a young player who was overtaxed as a freshman starting center in the SEC.
Efton has talent- there's a reason a top 10 program in Gonzaga made him a priority in the transfer portal. But like others in the thread have said, he really needs to add strength (not uncommon for freshman bigs) and finetune his jumpshot to hit his potential.
I will also say that LSU's offensive and defensive identities didn't really do him any favors. He's more of a back to the basket guy on offense, less of a vertical lob threat or a pick and pop big. And then obviously on a otherwise very switchable defensive team he had a target on his back on that end of the court.
I think he would have transferred even if Wade had been retained.

Bigs take longer to develop, especially now a days. Reid was rated high because of his length, his feet and his range. That’s all it takes for a 6-11+ player. Look around the NBA, you’ve got maybe three or four 6-11+ bigs worth a damn and the rest are 6-8, 6-9 forwards playing center. It’s gone from the most important piece of a team to a disregarded position so nobody’s coaching or developing these guys anymore and it’s a crap shoot. Reid is a good kid and a worker so it wouldn’t surprise me if he’s a 4 year guy who develops late.

Take a look at his Gonzaga game log and you'll find your answer. He got hate because he was a bad basketball player.

He was a skilled back to the basket big man with good feet and a soft shooting touch. But he was a bad rebounder and worse defender (he played hard, but just couldn't keep from fouling). The "hate" was that he was a net-negative for that particular team, yet Wade was hell-bent on starting him every game when LSU was clearly better with other lineups on the floor.

The guy had good tools, but was softer than baby shite.

Oh my, you’ve done it now.

Why did Efton Reid get so much hate
by the refs. He was out of position sometimes but the refs at times were totally ridiculous. I think it got in his head. I think he will eventually blossom.

Many things can develop… But when you’re soft, you’re soft.

Doesn't play much at Gonzaga

He didn’t suck, but he didn’t come close to meeting expectations. He’s a lot like Shawn Phillips. Both need development. We would be in better shape today if we had Efton, but I don’t think he would start for this team. Fountain and KJ would still start, but Efton would be getting plenty of playing time ahead of Shawn. Shawn is coming along, and may end up being the better player overall, but Reid has a better offensive game.

Not justifying the hate bc it was unwarranted
His numbers were worse than Del piero’s for the majority of the year.
The hate/criticism/whatever you want to CLL it was absolutely justified.

Despite what you want to believe, nobody ever claimed or is claiming Wade was infallible.
Remember when you posted there were 4-6 wins remaining on LSU’s schedule this year? How’s that working out for you?

I thought because people perceived he wasn’t a finisher/clutch/ winner. I saw him as a super talented kid with great energy who wasn’t even close to mastering his craft , and thought the in- game criticism of him was silly.

I guess you haven’t been reading this board much the past few weeks.

I said there were 4-6 remaining games we’d have a good chance to win.
- The Texas Tech game was back and forth til about 4 minutes to go
-Georgia - we had the lead with 5 seconds to go. I’d say we had a good chance to win
-South Carolina - still good chance to win
-Ole Miss - still good chance to win
Vanderbilt - playing better lately but still winnable
So through 2 of those games I’d say my prediction was spot on.
