Why did Cole Hutson not sign as a UDFA?

Because Sark called him while in minicamps and coerced him to sue and get a 5th year

If this is the language from the SEC’s federal filing regarding who is a professional:

What I’m getting at:
Did Hutson wish to sign as UDFA? Presumably if he went to mini camps, then the answer is yes. He also has an agent, and there are certainly written records in the form of texts and emails leading up to the draft that confirm this intent.
So if this were to make it to a federal case, a judge looking at this objectively would be forced to admit that the only different between Hutson, Wright, and Harris is that Hutson wasn’t as good of a player. So Texas gets off the hook simply because the NFL had a slightly higher opinion of the other 2 guys. It immediately falls apart if a federal judge is behaving in good faith.

1. He was not good enough to be a UDFA.
2. He would have to take a pay cut to leave the Longhorns for the NFL.

because he exhausted his eligibility he never “entered” the draft.
he was automatically available.

It’s the funniest thing about all this. Everyone can give you a justification why their guy is an exception. It’s almost like there needs to be clearly defined rules with no exceptions. Kind of like what it was pre NIL…

Very likely signed waivers if he attended or planned to attend a mini camp

He definitely did. But I’m not even arguing the mini camp waiver as a “professional contract” angle. My point is that a good faith argument trying to distinguish the intent of Hutson from the 2 LSU guys requires you to prove that Hutson declined UDFA opportunities and limited himself to mini camps to preserve his amateurism based on his ability to know the future and understand the correct legal interpretation of a rule that didn’t exist at the time.

Hutson was on Texas roster Saturday when they played. LSU didn't have a full 105 man roster. know these 2 kids in question at LSU are sueing NCAA. SEC, Sanky,
and suddenly LSU fills their 2 roster spots and Texas takes Hutson of their roster just a coincidence huh
Texas got frickin scared because what was a potential penalty for LSU who did nothing illegal, unlike TEXASc who did hence this kid is off the roster
What a clown show Sanky has made of this now they gonna get sued and loose their arse
and suddenly LSU fills their 2 roster spots and Texas takes Hutson of their roster just a coincidence huh
Texas got frickin scared because what was a potential penalty for LSU who did nothing illegal, unlike TEXASc who did hence this kid is off the roster
