I like that after this game people will start doubting them.

Should be fun.

Fail

Is your inferiority complex working overtime today?

WVU could not have "easily" won this game. The Tigers were leading by 2 scores almost the entire game.

Urban also said LSU had one of the best defenses in the country.

There is no way we are going to lose a game when the other team throws it 65 times. Our defense plan was smart. We missed some tackles but part of that was excellent first steps by their receivers. Our plan was to keep it in front , get turnovers, and run it down their throats in the 4th quarter. Only part we missed were some missed tackles against an unusual ( gimmicky by SEC standards ) offense of WV.

Alabama can't mimmick the WV offense. Florida possibly could but they would both lose to us if they tried that gimmicky / one dimmensional offense.

We will also learn better technique to stop the yards after catch by athletic wide receivers. We have played three hurry up offenses who are all very different and still prevailed - BIG.

We will also be better for the challenge it presented.

4 TD victory against a top 20 team in a notoriously hostile environment. For pete's sake they were booing our injured players and their coach was cursing at our INJURED players.
The FOURTH QUARTER was ours. We ran it down their throats. I would have been comfortable with a three point lead with the way we dominated the 4th quarter.

God knows, I hate to see a qb with an arm like Geno sit back there and wait for a receiver to come open...but I think that after we played a quarter...our guys realized that WV receivers were really every bit as good as our vaunted dbs. And a missed tackle here and there, in an open field due to blitz...would have been fatal.

WV may be one dimensional...but they are damn good, and will kick arse the rest of the season, baring injuries.

The Tigers are BALANCED, offense, defense and special teams; and that is how you win the big ones. Total package...ko returns, punting, takeaways. We were and are the better team...bottom line; and the score bore that out.

Damn...what a dogfight schedule in front of us. I hope Florida and Bama beat each other down. We'll need some help.

Great game.

A look at West Virginia's offense on throws of 15 yards or more during the 2011 season.

First 3 Games vs. LSU
Comp pct. 60.9 10.0
Yds per att. 19.7 7.2
TD-Int 5-0 0-0
Pass effic. 297.7 70.5

Our D scheme / plan sucked, had it not been for the outstanding effort of the D "players", the Offense and the Special teams, we would have lost.

Bull!!! Chavis saw that we were better then West Virginia, and basically said let's not do anything overly complicated that will give them big plays. We'll keep them out of the end zone, and we'll take advantage when they make mistakes.

I saw an opponent whose offensive players were visibly frustrated because they made plays against LSU's defense that were big plays against others that were held to short gains. And they couldn't repeat those plays enough times in succession to put points on the scoreboard. 21 points is the only statistic that matters. The rest are just style points.

Chavis abandoned the blitz because WV was doing a good job picking up our blitzes (and yes they got away with holding several times last night), but he wanted to keep everything in front of the defense - give up the short quick stuff, prevent the big play. Even though we gave up 500 yards, there were very few big plays given up by the D.

Having a competent offense also helps.

My issue is no adjustments were made. They were obviously effective vs the initial plan. It's a little much to ask 4 DL to create pressure against 6 blockers and sometimes 7 blockers. LSU needs to attack to be effective on defense. This bend but don't break bs will get you beat eventually. I hope we attack Florida in a few weeks.

Eventually yes..........but who else can spread the field like this on LSU's schedule? Arkansas maybe but they do believe in the run more than WVU.

They went with the gameplan that could give them the W over the one that could have looked better or horribly worse depending on how the offense worked.

Remember WVU LOVES those bubble screens to the WR and screens to the RB. Im sure they wanted LSU to blitz as much as possible to bail them out of 3rd and long rather than have to throw into LSU's athletic secondary.

Damn right...I saw some blatant stuff that the refs just let go. AINT FAIR! I don't know how they get away with that kind of stuff. There ought to be an game review replay on the REFEREES; and anyone caught looking straight at an obvious hold...should be fined or fired outright.

Lets talk about another angle...why did Chavis not add a 6th DB (Mustnag/Dime) and drop a LB (Hatcher who was a liability all night)?

Goes to show you how important 465 passing yards is when you don't score more than the opponent. I'd be fine allowing 500 yards in the air per game as long as our run defense keeps terrifying teams and we win the game. But we won't, and we will(respectively).

I have no idea what the hell the man was thinking. WVU kept 7 blockers in at all times and had almost every linemen of ours double teamed. If you're not going to add any pressure might as well not bring anyone... I was PISSED to say the least.

People who think anyone is going to try and duplicate this are retards. The Air Raid is basically variations of the same play/plays over and over again. It requires a TREMENDOUS amount of repetition. It can't be duplicated in a week of practice.

If you blitz they throw 30 screen passes. If you bring the Safeties up to defend the screens, they hit the skinny post for a TD.

Chavis played it perfectly. Rantards.

I'm impressed with our Passing D. 62 attempts and only 2 TD's against a "Heisman" hopeful.

That won't work in the future- play to your strengths- go with a dime package- LSU has talent galore in the secondary- Loston can bring the wood and cover- 6 DBS- DROP 1 LB

Then old classic bend but don't break. I hate watching that. Much prefer the attacking D we've played all year.BUT, it worked and we won the game.THAT is what counts. Two of the drives they scored on are the ones they racked up big plays on.The other drive they got the benefit of that 3rd and long catch which didn't look like a catch to me. So on one drive they were able to go the length of the field without getting stopped or turning it over when we didn't let them bust a big play. I'd say the plan worked. But I still hate watching that crap. I was a little surprised our d line didn't beat some of those guys up front. But they pass block, hold legally, real well, and they had numbers when we rushed just 4.

LSU blitzed a few times and WV burned them almost every time. I thought LSU's strategy was good. They contained and and caused havoc everytime the ball was in the air.
