If Chavis gave up the blitz in Q1, then how did Tyrann make that INT in Q2 right before half?

That said, blitz was indeed abandoned for the most part and maybe didn't blitz once in the second half.

We won on special teams...TM's steal of the ball on the punt to put us at the goal line and MC's punt return. It was also pretty nice of WV to give us the ball on that fumbled quick shuffle pass and kill any momentum they had at that time.

Our offense was doing things at will, but so was their's in the second half.

guess we do not use the same definition of WORKED...Geno had 463 yards passing.

The LSU PLAYERS in O, special teams and D, won this game..I do not like the D plan in the second half at all.

we we got four turnovers, had them turn the ball over on downs, and dropped another two to three int's. muncie, taylor, and reed all had catchable int's. couple that with a dropped t.d. pass. i say it worked. he put the players in position to make plays, some made them, some didn't. however, we got a turnover for every 100 yards given. i'll take that everyday and twice on sunday. had the "players" made the plays, lsu would have hung 70 on them and kept them under 20 pts. philosophy WORKED.

So your plan is to ignore anything that previous posters have mentioned in the discussion or to not read the link that was provided to shed light on the D's plan.

The O scored at will
The D created two TOs and capitalized on 2 more.
The ST played to near perfection

When they fumble the ball it is a gift, when RR drops a really obvious catch that he can do sleepwalking - THAT is not a gift?>

LSU's sure handed DBs dropping INTs is not a gift to WVU?

You can't pick and choose plays for gifting from one team alone.

The difference between our O and theirs was the LSU O was efficient and scored on 7 drives- the WVU O scored 3 / 13 drives ( 4TO and 6 punts - both caused by the maligned D).

all the "DC's" in this thread would've lost the game.

jesus, y'all suck. some of our fans, i swear to God.

chavis played it perfectly. other than a big play or two he played the defense as not to get beat by a quick strike. we missed a lot of tackles tonight. it contributed to big plays.

"BUT WHY DOESN'T HE TEACH TACKLING??!!!"

tenn never beat fla because their offense sucked and fulmer forgot how to recruit. chavis was known as one of the first defensive coaches to be able to limit the spread.

if you don't know that, you shouldn't post.

i just can't believe people are this stupid.

we have a defense that held two of the best offenses in the country to 20 and 21 pts (or 27 if you want to count that UO TD with :06 left, and you probably do.)

basically we get three TD's and FG against anyone in the country and we win.

we didn't play a perfect game and we beat a ranked team by 26 on the road. sorry for dominating.

Look at what Wing did. We had a lead and he kept pinning them down deep and we took the "make them drive the whole field 4 yds a pass" approach and tried to avoid the big play. They did spring a couple of big plays but we also drop a few easy Ints.

3 step drops and getting rid of the ball so quickly ... Was useless to blitz because we didn't have time to get to the QB.

alabama cannot run that offense. not worried about alabama. florida will be a tougher game. florida should beat bama this week...

Big deal. They got some passing yards on 65 attempts. Yes we misssed some INTs and yes we didn't exactly tackle well in the secondary, but

WE WON BY 26 - on the road - against a Top 20 team.

I thought we all understood that WVU was going to make some plays. Its not like we were playing a patsy.

The way Wing was boxing them in, the attitude was "if they had 5 90 yard drives completing a bunch of 6 yard passes, then they deserve to win."

gtfo with logic and reasonable thoughts.

I get so nauseated coming to the Rant and the Score Board during/after games

450 passing yards is a little concerning, I admit. But it was on what, 62, 65 attempts? That many attempts.. there's going to be gains through the air. Chavis' scheme worked well. It was all about containing that quick-strike, high powered offense. Gino gets the ball out very quickly, their line is very good, and the LOVE to throw screens and draws. Blitzing against WVU is like handing big plays over to WVU. They would have hit us for more big, big plays had Chavis blitzed all night. There easily could have been 2-3 more turnovers. That was the design; make them dink and dunk down the field and generate turnovers.

Great game plan from the coaches and Chavis. Got the W in a strong way. It's strange to see LSU win with Defense AND Offense huh?

Wait to the rest of the SEC gets upfront and personal, they will really see how strange it is

+1

Such a disappointing thread to read. How can this not be obvious to everyone! Keep them in front, make them throw it 10+ times in a drive, and tackle. The only way we were losing that game was turning it over or giving up a bunch of big plays. I can promise you the most frustrating thing we did to WV last night was sitting in coverage and not letting them hit more big plays. They were DYING for us to blitz them!!!

The tackling in the open field was a bit weak, but give WV's skill guys some credit. They're pretty good.

I just can't agree with this. They came within inches of cleaning his clock. I think Chavis gave up too soon.

...and WVU wouldn't have adjusted to screens and slants?

Geno was getting rid of the ball in a split second. Did any of you not see that? Or were you too busy watching the defensive line to bitch about it?

The blitzes were NOT going to work. The reason that yards piled up is because of the fantastic job Brad Wing did.

The bottom line here is WVU tallied up 500+ yards. But scored 21 points. How often does that happen? That's the most telling of what the defensive gameplan turned into.

Keep everything in front. ...and they did.

You guys want to bitch, but when a guy has to throw the ball 60+ times, you can probably expect high numbers.

There were about 6 dropped INT's as well. Secondary in great position but couldn't catch. (I guess that's why they're DB's)

I thought the strategy or lack of blitzs was due to the poor field position they had all night. west Virginia could have easily won the game. No kick return and we were in big trouble. We dropped 7 all night. Anyone could have pick us apart. athe score was not an indication of how close the game was. Urban Meyer said after the game the best 2 D fronts in the SEC are Bama and Fla.

Cause if we bring pressure and it was handled, WVU could house it. The only way we were going to lose the game as long as our offense could move the ball.

Blitz first and ask questions later has always been my philosophy. Blitz early, often, and always. Bottom line, Tigers won by 4 TDs. I didn't like the defensive gameplan, but, the result speaks for itself.
