Alabama reloads OCs like changing diapers on a baby but we cant seem to find one good one in the last ten years...Money is not the issue, so what is it?

It’s starts with the AD and decision making. Looking at the last few hires they were all trash. Maybe we should go to the Big 12 and steal of their guys they know how to put up points Ok, OkSt, TTec, Baylor. I know they don’t face the defense we face weekly but it’s worth the shot.

i don’t think they want to come here and work under CEO and this administration. Or we wouldn’t have SE

Because we have had nothing but offensive micro managers as head coaches for 14 years.

Because you guys fired him last year after one season. O can’t stay out of his own way.

Because LSU has hired bonehead head coaches. Bonehead HC makes bonehead OC hire.

The rant told me a B12 offense won't work in the SEC because it exposes your defense.

Define "decent".

No, I'm not happy with E. I was not happy with E after SLU and LTU, or UF or AU. I saw improvement, I was getting there but there was still plenty that wasn't being done. I mean hey, we've had 2 games in a row where we at least completed a single screen pass. Up till now we couldn't complete those. And we saw the RPO creeping in, but it was for show.

If you define "decent" as someone who beats Bama, it's a skewed metric. If you define "decent" as someone who looks like a genius against lesser talent then I agree, we're lacking.

But on to your question... you have to choose between two things:

A) a system guy who is going to run his system, recruit for his system and then stick with him (e.g. Canada, Baby Briles)

B) A flexible guy who alters the "system" to fit the personnel at that time. I see Cheney as one of those. You don't need an identity, continuity isn't required.

You can't go from one to the other; if a (B) leaves or is fired, you have to replace with another (B).

Orgeron thought he was getting a hybrid with E. Someone who was with the team, knew the players, and could provide continuity but wasn't a "system" guy.

He was wrong. He is a "system" guy. And it is nothing like his predecessor, or his predecessor. The continuity isn't there.

To get a decent OC, you'll have to choose A or B.

If you choose A, you'll have to lock him down, change your recruiting somewhat, change the position coaches likely, and buckle down because they are usually egotistic and are looking for the next big thing. You'll have to eat some shite because it goes with the territory to have that continuity.

If you choose B, you can't have buyers remorse and you better (as a HC) have a firm grounding in the offense yourself because you'll have to decide what your strengths are that year and design your scheme to use that.

But you still have to choose. If you can't choose, then you'll have a hard time convincing anyone else, presumably your next OC, of your vision and expectations.

And if you get real lucky and find that up & comer who does a bang up job- you won't keep him and you'll have to do it all over again.

Gary Crowton was a great OC, and was very innovative, the Jarret Lee/ Andrew Hatch situation ruined him and then Miles refused to trust him with the offense.
