When you give Div 1 shooters open looks, they will make them. We give up a lot of open looks.

Except they don’t always make them.

Simple. They are lazy on close outs and if they do close out they usually have their hands down. It was a problem last year and it's a problem this year. I know Wade is beyond reproach, but when it's a recurring theme it's time to start looking at the bench.

Anybody who thinks this team is poorly coached is an idiot and knows nothing about basketball. 3 starters on this team are true freshmen and in their first year learning how to play Wades defense. If you watch nd understand you will see LSU rotates players to help against drives into the lane. When a player leaves his man another must rotate to pick up the open man. Right now players don't know where and when to rotate. As the season develops they will learn and get better. Once they start reacting instead of thinking they will be quicker to pick up the open players. LSU doesn't allow many points in the paint because of the type defense they play. Teams don't get much dribble penetration with this defense. The fact teams hit a higher percent of their 3's is more due to players not rotating quick enough and not the coaching. The fact remains, I suppose people are too ignorant or negative to see it, LSU is undefeated and has played a couple very good teams.

They get beat one on one too easy and half the team collapses when this happens... thus easy kickouts. Couple different ways to address this the best way is to guard the ball better.

I'm more concerned about the lack of movement and chemistry on offense. Thank God for waters and Mays.

Wade is a great recruiter, and an excellent coach in terms of teaching ball movement, and motivating. But, defensively, something just isn't right. People made excuses about not having enough athletes last year, which I didn't buy, because playing defense is about hustle and execution. It's not about being an elite athlete. Sure, athleticism helps, but it's not what makes a defense work in basketball.

Now, LSU has all of the athletes it could ask for, and we still see guys just getting left wide open. It's passed time to get that corrected.

Their biggest problem is shot selection on offense. I think there needs to be a reevaluation of some guys roles on this team and what they need to do for the team to be successful. I think they will play well in Orlando. They have been looking forward to this challenge since the off-season.

Seems like they have the athletes but it seems like the opponents shooters get hot against us.

It's a scheme thing. Wade will have to decide what he values more come conference play.

I agree. It’s not a lack of effort or athleticism. It’s the defensive plan.

The three pointers stop when they go zone. Man to man coverage not very good yet.

We need to identify the hot shooter sooner and shade towards him sooner so we can closer on him sooner and not let him keep stroking it in rhythm.
Some of the guys we played had unusual nights and we were slow to adjust and the same guy burned us too often.
I like the effort, we just need to tighten things up as a team on the perimeter D.

I'll say this too, I don't think the scheme is bad. Players just not consistently executing yet. It will get better.

Some of it is just players making plays. If a guy makes a shot from what would be considered long in the NBA, you live with that. If a guy takes and makes an off balance pull up three, that's a bad shot and you live with that to because the percentages will be in your favor.

The thing I devise when watching this team and watching Wades coaching tapes is he is big on the first step, and that's where most ground can be gained. Close outs look fine. Wade wants you to be in position where your first step can be a big one and you are out of the paint, and right now we are just getting a little to deep in the paint to be able to come out and contest the shot.

I am watching this LSU basketball team for the first time. Looks like a poorly coached team. Terrible defense and they don't know what they are doing on offense.

I love it when the part time fans chime in

We gotta get back on defense wayyy better. We rotate a ton of guys, staying pretty fresh. So adjust minutes giving the effort guys more time. The ones sitting more will notice and learn to maximize their minutes. We got enough talent this year for coach wade to send messages during the game. Lotta competition
