re: Why Bo Pelini?

Its not like he has been sitting at home doing nothing. FCS teams run explosive offenses or creative offenses also. They just do it with less talent. He was in the Big 12, which saw the offensive explosion before the SEC.
He is just an ok HC. He is a good DC.
He and O have the Pete Carroll connection

Before 2007 season I was working an LSU golf tournament, put Pelini’s bag in his car. Asked him if he was worried about starting the season on the road at Miss St. He said without a trace of doubt or hesitation “we ain’t losing to Miss St.”
I was waiting for some PC coach speak answer. Man’s got swag.

f that's who O wants, why are you questioning it? He clearly has earned the benefit of the doubt
I agree coach o gets the benefit of the doubt but in my eyes he is 1 for 2. Matt Canada wasn’t a good hire. Im not sure who he should hire but I have faith he will hire the right guy.

One concern I have is after being the man at Nebraska and Youngstown, can he step back now and be a subordinate to Coach O? I don't know him or O well enough to have a credible opinion on that
Now ego wise, will he be a Matt Canada? I am hoping that his being in his 50's will temper that possibility.

Truly think DA was too conservative for what O really wants to do. He wants to go 4/3 and attack . That was never going to be DA, He knows what he wants, and more importantly what he can sell these recruits.

You don't remember Bo Pelini as LSU DC?
Posted on 1/22/20 at 3:58 pm to LSU Patrick
How was Pelini's recruiting at LSU? Been too many years.

I don't think his ego was the same type of ego issues with Canada. Pelini is good within the team. Players like him when he was here. And one of his biggest issues he had was a team meeting caught on tape. Where he was pumping up his players, but unfortunately disparaged the media and fans. He won't have that issue as DC.
He and Orgeron are friends. They both have a Pete Carroll connection. I think he matches up pretty favorably with the ORgeron attitude. Orgeron is punching himself in the face, saying F Bama, sort of relates to what Pelini does.

Only one answer here:
BECAUSE COACH O WANTS HIM!!
If he doesn't, all these opinions are like this peeing in the wind and have no value!

Love Coach O and I don't think anyone is questioning him. I do think it is fine to discuss what to expect from Pelini and get hyped for our new DC.

This is why i have my doubts of bo or any older successful coordinators.
He's two years older than Veneables and the same age Saban was when he left LSU.

This needs to be followed up with the final score:
LSU: 45
State: ZERO POINTS

His last 4 defenses, in the Big 10 no less, gave up 23.4, 27.6, 24.8, 26.4 and 27.8ppg. He also allowed 28.5 in 08 at Nebraska. This guy has had 2-3 good defenses in his entire career and turned an LSU Defense that had 3 top 6 NFL draft picks on the same unit from a defense that allowed 11-12ppg to a defense that allowed right at 20ppg before the offensive era. There’s a reason he’s jobless right now, he’s not a good DC, never was and modern SEC offenses will shred his cover 3 zone schemes.

Your do well to look at SEC ppg both for and against comparing 2007 and 2019 before running too far with that take.

LSU had the best defense in the last 20 years when he was our DC.
You talking LSU only? I can agree with that.
I think Pelini will be good again here. Just hope everyone gels and gets along.

He has a job, head coach at Youngstown State.

I should’ve been more clear, when I said jobless I meant relevant jobs. Going from HC at Nebraska to Youngstown State is worse than going from the Major leagues to single A ball which players consider death.
