I mean there are fulls if you want to give it to someone. It’s just not wise in the grand scheme of things.

So that football coaches don't hide football players on the baseball teams... Bear Bryant rule

There is a different rule for that. If a student plays football and baseball, his scholarship counts against the football limit.

The use of lotto schollies is the most unequitable thing in college sports.

Can u imagine the outcry if Bama got 85 football scollies but LSU got 35. Well, that's what we deal with with baseball. I'm sorry but it's total, total bullshite.

You get Dodge Chargers in football so frick off.

If your shitty State wasn’t so poor, it could have the same benefits LSU has in baseball..
Wait, never mind. No you couldn’t because it’s an academic scholarship given to Louisiana residents only. There isn’t anyone in Alabama smart enough to get an academic scholarship.

In short, money. It's all about money. Baseball doesn't generate the $$ to have all these scholarships to give away.

This actually helps us in recruiting. Because of TOPS, a lot of times we don't have to give any scholarship money to Louisiana kids and give more to the top out of state kids than other schools can.

I don't want to here shat about scholarships. Auburn and Bama as a matter of fact have been playing with one hand tied behind their backs for almost 30 years.

We don't have a lottery scholarship situation. We had to give our freshman Tanner Burns almost a full scholarship on his own to come to school.

You can give a full scholarship if you want to. It’s just not a headcount sport. (All or nothing scholly)

My freshman year ‘92 I remember this guy from Colorado who was living in Kirby Smith. He was 6’3” and was competing for a scholarship as a pitcher. We (guys on our floor), went to watch him practice with the catchers one day. He was good, that size was an advantage for him. But he wasn’t good enough to get one of the available scholarships, so he packed up after 1 week and went back to Colorado. We asked him if they (LSU coaches) cut him. He said no, he was offered a spot to keep working, but said he only came to see if he could get a scholarship.

Title 9 was inacted to increase the chance of Women receiving an opportunity to play on the NCAA level. I have a female athlete on the college level and am grateful for her opportunity. But it is still not a great rule.

As is typical when government gets involved, the unintended consequence was a negative. Instead of raising the level for all athletes, it lowered the level for the Men's side. Title 9 is now an offset rather than expanded opportunity for participants.

At other schools, yes. Not at LSU...

quote:

At LSU, 3 teams turn profit last year, and 1 sport the financial king, audit shows

Football was one of just three athletic teams to turn a profit in 2015-16, the norm at LSU. Men's basketball made $2.3 million, and baseball made $1.5 million. All other sports lost money, including a $3.8 million loss from women’s basketball and a combined $4.5 million in a loss from women’s and men’s track and field/cross country.

That is normal for most major college athletic departments. In fact, LSU is one of few institutions that profits off baseball.
