Why are we fans of a college team that we claim allegiance to?

For me?, unlike many of you, I was not born into an LSU family, or raised to be an LSU fan. I became a Tiger fan, listening to WWL, LSU vs Ole Miss and Archie Manning. Became “Forever A Tiger“. My siblings & extended family are all gator fans.

Even when the tigers experienced seven losing seasons in an 11 year stretch, losing 11 of 12 games to the gators and Steve Spurrier ?I never wavered or even considered jumping ship. I admit I do become emotional during games, and sometimes in the moment I want to fire everyone.

My attraction to LSU was not based on being a dominate program at the time, and my loyalty was or is not based on an infatuation with one player.

I do think that TIm Tebow is probably the best leader of a college team ever & without a doubt the highest morals and character of any player in my lifetime.

However, if I could call back any former player from the SEC to be on this years LSU team, hands down it would be the Tyrann Mathieu? AKA the “Honey Badger”. The most exciting game changer ever in college football. I still watch his YouTube videos, and they still put goose bumps on this ole LSU fan. Geaux Tigers.....

I claim allegiance as a graduate of LSU, dad graduated there also. My first game was 1961 vs Ole Piss. Asked dad, “why do they say Go to hell Ole Miss?” That’s what we say son

Born and raised in La...never attended LSU, but that purple and gold strikes an immense sense of pride in me. Left home to join the military and Watching LSU on TV makes me feel close to home.

My grandpa moved from Oklahoma to Baton Rouge to work in the athletic department in the late 60's.

Started going to games when I could walk.

Later graduated from LSU on the 6 year plan...

Not because of parents in my case. My mom loathes LSU (Ole Miss fan). Dad is a fan now, but was a passive one at best during formative years.

Mainly from growing up in BR and graduating from there.

I was born into it. Parents brought me to Tiger Stadium before my first birthday. LSU athletics has always just been like another family member and our lives have just always revolved around it in some way or another. We schedule everything around sporting events whether it's been bday parties, graduation parties, sleep overs, etc.

My family is originally from Michigan. Most of them are die-hard Wolverines. I moved to Louisiana when I was 10 and went to LSU. I got the religion as a freshman during the Earthquake Game. Hodson to Fuller is forever burned in. Never looked back... even through the Hallman years!

I grew up in north Louisiana. My love for LSU grew out of my dad, granddad and older brother’s love for LSU.

I am an LSU alum x2, but my fandom began watching a Curley Hallman led team upend #1 ranked Al Abama at a young age.

I was able to go to the Independence Bowl in 1995 with my brothers and loved it....but the mea culpa....

My brother (an LSU student at the time) got me student section tickets to the 1997 Florida game....I was a high school Junior and was hooked. Game. Set. Match.

Geaux Tigers.

My first game was 1981 with my Dad. He was not even a huge fan at that time. Tickets were given to him. We tailgated with some friends of his and had ice cream from on campus dairy store. I became a huge fan that day.

My Dad got season tickets from friends up until 1989 when I was old enough to go on my own.

Went to LSU and proud to say class of '97. I will always be Forever LSU.

I know what you mean. I grew up in Chicago and became fully indoctrinated going to Tiger Stadium for the first time Freshman year.

2007 VT, it was instant and for life.

Lifelong LSU Tiger fan. My grandfather was the first from my family to graduate from LSU, and all 4 of his children graduated from LSU, which includes my mother. My sister and I both graduated from LSU, where I met my wife. My sister went to went to Auburn for grad school, where she met her husband, and already tainted our gene pool with a damn war eagle. Or, war DAMN eagle.
