Why are we as a fanbase ALWAYS looking to be offended?

If we don't have representation on every good list out there, we seem to think that everyone hates us or that the poll makers are the dumbest idiots on Earth
i've been following LSU closely for about 15 years.
please tell me that there was a time when we were not acting like the little brothers/chicken littles of the NCAA

My favorite is when this happens in recruiting. Some kid from Louisiana will be ranked the 7th best receiver in the country, and some yokel will be outraged at the slight. It goes like this:
"Freaking Rivals just ranked Jermario SirJames ahead of Demarius Jackson!!!!!! Are you kidding me!! I just lost all respect for Rivals. They are a joke as an organization."
Keep in mind that the author of the post has never seen either kid play a down. I love those posts.

It's everywhere, y'all. Just so blindingly obvious here in La.
I'll give you an example from the Soccer Board----bear with me here, please.
One of Italy's biggest clubs, AS Roma (that's the big club in Rome.) had their practice facility attacked by their own fans because they have lost 3 matches in a row.
I don't mean a few fans outside chanting or whatever. Their own most staunch supporters, pelting the facility with rocks, bottles whatever.
And before you say, hey, it's soccer what do you expect, I'm certain that's a sentiment shared by sports fans around the world. Hell, some guy in Alabama attacked oak trees for Lord's sake.

I could do that, but it would be wrong.
Same mentality that mkes us want to ride coaches and quarterbacks out of town on a rail. We believe there are no other programs that can come remotely close to our level of excellence, and that certainly we are never mediocre, and are mightily offended when outsiders fail to acknowledge it or when coaches or players fail to prove it.

What I find funny is that anyone who agrees with us finally has it right, and the rest are part of a conspiracy. Most fanbases feel that there team is at the center of the world. It's like all of this "we shocked the world" crap when a team wins a championship. Not really. I imagine about 95% of the worlds population doesn't give a rip.

I will even turn it around and say that our fanbase is ALWAYS fishing for compliments. They want sooooo badly for others to come here (especially for baseball) and say this was the greatest thing ever.

ESPN didn't hate LSU until 2003 BCSNCG.
Prior to message boards i don;t think our fanbase was so sensitive. I believe every fanbase is sensitive now since any negative comment can be detrimental to recruiting and or how the pollsters vote.
