The official answer is that it helps the pitcher sees the signs. Who knows what the real reason is.

Just kidding.

I recall catchers taping their fingers in the past but not painting nails.

After taping I think they were using white out to paint their nails
Personally I like the pink

Thanks man. It’s a shame that people can’t be more civil.

I think the question is legit. It’s the “wtf??” In the op that is going make people think you are being an a hole to the guy for painting his nails.

If your question is “why are his nails painted?” Then you’re new to baseball and aren’t much of a critical thinker.

If your question is about the color pink then it seems like your worried about the catcher being gay.

Either way it would be better to just not post that question.

Wearing white or gray pants the pink or yellow stands out better.

You need to understand that some of these guys so rarely get the chance to lord over someone who has less knowledge than them in a particular area.

Admittedly I don’t watch pro baseball unless I go to a couple of Rangers games a year, but I’ve been watching LSU baseball for 30 years. I’m 50 btw. I don’t recall ever seeing an LSU’s catchers nails painted. I’m sorry that my lack of observation has upset you

If you're not looking for it, it's easy to miss.

Papierski had his nails painted white for the majority of his time at LSU. I guess the hot pink is easier to see in the day time than white?

I guess I always assumed they were taped. We’re never too old to learn something new

The issue with the tape is pretty much every ball you're throwing as a catcher (besides back to the pitcher) is probably you throwing it as hard as you possibly can and it's hard to stay accurate with tape on the fingers

Did you not play baseball competitively growing up?

I never played competitive baseball growing up. Is that supposed to be a character flaw, or were you just sneakily announcing that you DID play competitively? BTW, congratulations on your great baseball career.
