Why are a lot of you afraid of a new coach? Afraid of change?

Let's all keep in mind that after Nick Saban jolted on us, we picked up a coach in Les Miles who had a career 28-20 record at Oklahoma State in 4 seasons. This guys who had a mediocre record at a Big XII school has done some great things at LSU, predominately in his first 5-7 years, albeit the first 3 were with Saban's players and recruits. So, I have to ask...why are some of you so afraid of replacing Les? You're willing to except mediocrity with as much talent as anyone? LSU made Les Miles a household name and coach, not the other way around.

Don't kid yourself, it's been a steady decline since 1958

Look at other schools that have done so and failed

I think some of us still remember running off another one of the Nicest Men of All-Time in Cholly Mac, and seeing immediate fruits/heartaches. Jerry Stovall had 2 great years and 2 awful years. Then we had Arnsparger fart around with us for 3 years and proceeded to then make the worst hire in LSU history (yes, worse even than Curley). Curley then finished off the half-dead corpse.
To put it in the words of Harry Flugelman, "We strayed from the formula, and we paid the price."

Many people had the same fears when we let Dinardo go. The fears are all rooted due to the shite with Curley and Arnsparger.

imagine if a coach with that record was hired today

Different personality types.
Change is tough and some people really struggle with it. We see this is the business world without exception. It is human design.

Not afraid but I recognize the risk. Plus we've made two good hires in a row. It's like we're due for a bad hire.

And if we make a bad hire, then we have a couple of bad seasons and make another change.

LSU HAD A GRAND TOTAL OF 1 (ONE) 10 WIN SEASON FROM 1960-2000. LET THAT SINK IN.

Because he was hired by a guy that won 5 championships as a coach, not this snake Alleva.

Miles got a number one recruit that Saban could not land. Was his first move.
Have a hard time believing he would not have gotten that talent to begin with.

Because Les Miles is one of the only few coaches who can get great defensive coordinators and great players. Only, like, 3 other coaches can get their teams to underachieve and look so undisciplined and yet do just enough to remain a tad relevant. Les Miles had arguably the best regular season in the history of LSU football thanks to an opportunistic defense and an offense that could do just enough. We beat 3 BCS champs that year. But when we look back, we remember 1/9 and not the West Virginia win, the Oregon win, or the Alabama win earlier in the season. That game sums up the career of Les Miles. He did great early on, but the mistakes and lack of preparation eventually catch up to you.

He's a good coach. You can argue the best coach in the history of LSU based on bowl wins, national championship win, national championship game loss, winning percentage, and ten win seasons.
Why replace arguably the best coach in LSU history because he's 7-3 at this point in the season?

Because we saw Tennessee after firing Fulmer
USC after Carrol
Florida after Meyer
Texas after Brown
etc.
That doesn't mean we can't make another great hire like we did after Saban left but it doesn't mean that things will automatically get better

Yeah, nothing has changed since then.

Yeah, it's not like the season expanded to 11 then 12 games and added an SEC CG and now playoffs.
Great post, great fail.
