I went to high school with Shane. Graduated a year before me. It'd really be a shame to see him go.

I know most of the people in your graduating class, and I can only think of one Zac.

You're probably thinking of Zac Bergeron. He played baseball too. Outfielder if I remember correctly.

The two bullpen catchers will not be on the official roster. They will still provide bullpen services for practice and help out but won't be on the official roster is the way I understand it - that's two right there.
I know of two others that are being encouraged to transfer.
They will not touch any true freshmen unless those decide to transfer out also.
It will all work out. Every school is in the same boat. It bodes well for a lot of JCs right now!

these roster restrictions are bullshite. i hope the ncaa is real happy that they are stopping the sport from growing.

Actually they hurt the private schools worse since the NCAA also mandated scholarship amount minimums so that all 35 get a piece of the pie. The limits will make the competition better since teams can't stockpile 45 or 50 guys like they did in the past. It must be working in football when you look at some of the recent upsets that are taking place.

Haydel won't be cut..he's too valuable to the infield depth bc he can play every position. Plus he brings leadership. Mcghee wasn't at practice on friday and I didn't see Taylor Martin either.

Mainieri said he's practicing with 39 guys right now. Yes both of the catchers could get the axe. You'v already got Gibbs, Ochinko, Dishon, and the freshman Didier who play the position.

!!

The NCAA is doing its best to destroy college baseball. The scholarship limits are completely insane. They have not yet invented a word strong enough to desribe how much that arbitrary and stupid limit is holding back the sport.

I agree without a doubt that it is damaging Division I baseball teams... JUCOs are gonna flourish though.
Onto the whole "Who's getting cut question?", for all of the people mentioning that a freshman might get cut... you have to understand that the cuts MUST come from non-scholarship players (not that all of the freshmen are on scholarship, but a bunch are). If Mainieri cuts a scholarship guy, that player still counts against his roster and, hence, is a waste of a roster spot.
The NCAA is putting baseball in a bad place. The rule changes are preventing coaches around the country from keeping "character" guys who contribute more to the program than most people see, ie. no more Nick Pontiffs, Buzzy Haydel, Farnsworths (guys who no doubt can play, but they bring more to the table than ability.)
