I misread some comments and thought you were arguing more vigorously than what you were. So that’s my bad.

I just think any freshman’s chances to be the best in the country are slim to none. It’s happened but it’s almost a generational type thing so yea anytime it happens I’m going to be surprised.

Every now and then a Trevor Lawrence type player comes along at any position

Lawrence may very well have been arguably the best QB in college football last season, but don't forget he didn't even start at the beginning of the season.

Fournette was on a whole different level in college, when healthy. It took him a while to adjust to the college game.

Obviously those are different positions, and it's kind of apples to oranges, but those are both the rarest of the rare talent wise and neither were the best in the game from day one.

I know. That’s why I’m saying that I would be very surprised if it happened.

Yeah, I was expanding on what you said, not arguing against it.

the CB in the country

That wouldn’t be fair to other teams. They need CBs too.

Just think of our passing numbers though. Buckeye Joe would be correct after all.

He’s the most talented I’ve seen come out of LA in a looong time.

I know this kid has been hyped through the roof and personally I think he deserves the hype.

That being said, I can’t see him being the best corner in the entire country this season. But I think he gets to that before he leaves LSU.

This year. I want straight answers. I personally think he can do it.

Have you ever seen a true freshman who was the best player in the nation at his position? And I mean without debate. I have not. So, yes, I would be surprised. College football is a very big step from HS. He has never faced a receiver in HS as good as the ones he will lineup against this year, never. Having the tools to be a very good college CB and going on the field and using those skills against experienced college players is completely different things.

This kid is special.
One pick6 or kick return vs Texas and he's halfway there.

Especially since teams may be throwing his way because of Fulton at the other corner.

It sets up nicely for him...

I think he has a better chance than people are giving him. That’s all I really meant with this thread.

Yep because Kristian Fulton is really good.

It certainly helps his case that he will get the lion’s share of throws. Fulton is a machine. We really missed him in the A&M game last year.

I will be shocked if he’s among the top 20 corners this year. It takes time to learn the craft, to get to the point that reads are instinctive. Patrick Peterson was the best college corner I’ve ever seen besides Sanders. He didn’t even start the first half of the year. Now, he had a lot more competition than Stingley does. But the point is that a real accomplished, talented corner will be better than a true freshman no matter how talented the freshman is.
