I’m going with Matt House. Doug Mallory and Dale Peveto just didn’t have all that much to work with on defense in 2008, and the offense wasn’t all that great either. The 2008 team wasn’t going anywhere.

Matt house had almost as much talent as the 2008 LSU defense, but produced a historically bad defense that was so bad that it prevented us from winning a championship with a 2023 offense that rivaled 2019. If we even had a middle of the road defense in 2023, there’s a good chance that we would have won a national title.

Also Bo Pelini in 2020. The defense in his one comeback season was statistically the worst in LSU history.

Chavis gave us the 2011 defense though.
