since your criteria seems to be 40's what was Cassanova's?
Posted on 8/9/09 at 12:40 pm to SlowFlowPro

ronnie brown (4.37 at 235)
pat willis (4.38 at 245+)
DMac (4.27 at 217)
mario williams (4.66 at 290 and strong as frick)

travis williams (4.8 at 300 lbs and like 40 reps)

andre johnson (4.28 at 230)
jevon kearse (4.45 at 255 and like the 2nd best 10-yard dash ever)
vernon davis
darius heyward-bey
antonio cromartie
eddie simms

(18-20+ reps of 225)

broad over 10-0
Btw, your knowledge of combine stats is truly astounding. And impressive.

still doesn't meet all your requirements.
i said at the beginning of this thread that there wasn't 1 definition b/c of the broad spectrum of sizes we were dealing with
i gave a generic response to the middle-tier of freak (the 230-250 lb range)

no
i have my head and there are some listings online from pro day results here or there. ones from 2005 and earlier are unreliable

Cassanova gets a pass. He played 5 different positions on the field, so that made him a freak
Steve Korte is also a freak, yet didnt take a meaningful snap as an LSU Tiger.
Go figure. The brain of SFP.

I'll weigh in, good post.
Faulk, was approximately 5 ft 7 or 5 ft 8 in my estimation. I don't know about his speed, but he was a game changer.
This may surprise some, but I will throw in Hester as a freak by virtue of not appearing to be a freak and being a game changer. 1000 yards rushing puts him in a small group among SEC backs, and even smaller among LSU backs. I don't know that I ever someone more capable of banging out positive yards. Also, wasn't he crazy strong?
Finally, I did not see the one person I would select as freak because of his ability to overcome his size--Josh Reed. I had a class with him and I would say 5 ft 9 or so. Don't know about his other measurables. The dude was off the hook in space.

this is a thread about athleticism, not play on the field. i don't see how this is a hard concept to understand

there is no hole that you can attempt to get me in when i made it clear from the beginning that the range of player made any 1 criteria far too hard
Posted on 8/9/09 at 12:47 pm to KnoxvilleBerryTiger
Including a standard -issue skill set guy like Hester in this thread is silly, and I LOVE Hester. He was a bull. There are LOTS of Bulls.

you mentioned Casanova, and all you knew about him was that he played 3 different positions. ON THE FIELD.

obviously it is, you keep changing the criteria
you think Casanova was any better of an athlete than Spears or Michael Clayton, both of whom you dismissed as being great athletes?

i said at the beginning of this thread that there wasn't 1 definition b/c of the broad spectrum of sizes we were dealing with
So your definition of "freak" is a pure NFL combine measurables one. Arm strength, durability, instincts, etc., are not a factor because if the combine doesn't measure it, it's not athleticism?
I'm not criticizing your standards, just your poor communication. You could have clarified all the issues at the onset if you had simply phrased your question properly. For example:
quote:
Who was LSU's last guy to have incredible NFL combine numbers for his weight class?
Citing Tommy Cassanova gave the mistaken impression that your question involved the ability to play football.

i haven't really changed it. i've posted like 10-15 guys
the criteria is not some set group of #s. you will have different matrices for a 200 lb guy compared to a 250 lb guy compared to a 290 lb guy
quote:
you think Casanova was any better of an athlete than Spears or Michael Clayton
well it's obviously for his era
but it wouldn't shock me to find out cassanova didn't have the same speed/quickness/jumping of clayton 20 years earlier than clayton. dwayne bowe was a better athlete than clayton and lafell may be better than both of them
