I would have to throw out Marcus Spears.

he was quick for a 300-lb guy but not mario williams quick. and he ran a 5.0 40

tyson jackson was a better athlete

but your dead on the dude was incredible. He would have went down as the greatest LB in LSU history if not for the neck injury.

Shaq and Tyrus Thomas were the two best answers so far IMO. Shaq was freakish for being such a big man that could still move well. Tyrus just for his freakish jumping ability.

What kind of "freak"? Clayton and Dominick Davis were both freakishly athletic, as is Chad Jones now. JaMarcus had freakish athletic talents, and so does Trindon and so did Xavier Carter. Tommy Cassanova's blend of size, strength, speed and quickness is indeed rare. I'm not certain that any player in the country has had that exact combination since he played (I never really got to see much of him in action, so it's hard to make definitive judgments). My guess for the closest we've had since might be Dominick Davis . . . though it's really hard to gauge comparisons when essentially nobody plays two ways like they did back then. Addai seems like a pretty good candidate, too.

Not sure what SFP's definition of "freak athlete" is, but for football I would have to throw out Marcus Spears.

He would be the closest lately IMO. Mike Miley also. I still think the last truly great "freak" athlete in the SEC was Bo Jackson.

just stop, jake

all you're doing is critizing everyone else's picks

chad jones' ability to throw a 93MPH fastball, added to his abilities on the football field, make him a freak athlete. i could care less what his "measurables" are

Kinda the way I am thinking...to hell with their ability to run, jump, and lift if it results in them getting worked on the field by some without those measurables.

No, apparently by "freak" he means "a mythical figure I can conjure in my head to use as a measuring stick by which to bash Tommy Moffitt's conditioning program because the only thing in football that matters to me are the 40 times at the NFL combine."

i don't think landry was that freakish

if he had another 15 lbs and still had the same stats, i'd agree with landry in a heartbeat

landry is a freak for LSU but not objectively. addai was right on par with landry

skills, talent and the ability to perform on the field don't count.
