Throw Lange against the #4 seed 8n the Regional?

I don't think so.

LSU's never lost to a 4 seed and they've played around plenty of times.

I don't know that what Lange said gave away anything. If Peterson starts game 1, you then throw Lange then Poche. Walker, if he pitches at all, would be pitching in the Monday game which is elimination for both teams.

I'm not saying that's what CPM will do...just saying that this situation also fits what Lange said.

Yep, lsu could easily throw johnny whoestaff if we get someone like texas southern. If its a better 4 seed, with alot of lefties, poche

Agreed. I think it will be Peterson on Friday. Could be Gilbert, but I'd like to have him coming out of the bullpen. I think our bullpen is pretty average without Gilbert. Top 4 guys of Newman, Hess, Gilbert, & Bush is much more formidable. Beck isn't too shabby either. Hess & Gilbert can both give you 3+ innings in relief if needed.

Poche if the 4 seed is actually a little bit of a threat to us.

Having Walker as our potential Monday starter is a very good safety net.

Keep in mind that if the weather turns to shite and we have multiple delays then the pitching rotation could very well fall to the bullpen early on. I'd hate to put Lange or Poche on the mound for three innings and then the bottom fall out for a two hour delay and lose both of them for the remainder of the tournament. Jimmy Wholestaff could become a big part of this tournament.

I don't think he's going to start Peterson without having had the opportunity to see him start, and his response, in the SECT.

Also a big part of throwing allstaff in more recent regionals is because we didn't really have a reliable #3 anyway, so going in we already knew one game would have to be broken up that way. With three starters going into this one it isn't as big of a problem to use one on Friday.

IMO Gilbert would be the only other option outside Poche, and he's probably going to want him available out of the bullpen instead of starting.

Agree on needing Gilbert out of the bullpen. As the poster above you stated...rain could force us to go to our bullpen for a lot of innings. Gilbert & Hess are the only 2 legit options for that scenario. Well, Peterson as well if he doesn't start.

I'd be cool with Poche pitching on Friday, but I also wouldn't count out Peterson . He had 6 good innings vs NW State, was slated to start vs Missouri(1 game suspension), & he had a perfect inning(minus an error by our defense) in relief vs South Carolina. If we draw a really bad team as the 4 seed...I could see it happening. I'm not saying I prefer Peterson over Poche, but I wouldn't put it past CPM.

Depends on who the 4 seed is. If it's one of the better 4s in the tourney, throw Poche. No need to mess around and get down early if one of the unproven guys gives up some runs.

Poche
Lange
Walker

The problem people are missing is: do you want Peterson/Gilbert facing Texas Southern or the 2-seed in the "if necessary" game?

I'd be comfortable with Gilbert in the "if necessary" game. Not sure I'd trust Peterson in a game with our entire season on the line. Obviously, Walker is ideal in that scenario.

I would rather win in 3 games, throwing Poche-Lange-Walker. You can't not pitch walker this weekend, and that's what a lot of people are suggesting. And it's fricking dumb.

I would go with the same plan.
Start Gilbert, Hess to valuable in bullpen.
If game gets out of hand early, pull Gilbert to save him for relief if needed later on.
I would not go too far down with Peterson because even the worst team (4 seed) could jump up and bite you.
With scattered showers in forecast you might have some start and stop games with afternoon showers likely at the Box.

I think everyone wants to win in 3 games. Some people would just like to have Walker as the safety net on Monday if it comes to that.

I don't think people are saying that. They're just saying that there is no way Walker pitches before Sunday. Walker is either the Sunday or Monday guy.

This is where losing someone like Norman for the season really hurts. He could have been a decent relief or starter in regionals kind of guy.

And if it doesn't come to that? You don't go into this weekend thinking you'll be playing Monday. You play to win the first three games.

I'm not saying you're right or wrong. Just saying that CPM might feel confident with Peterson/Gilbert against a 4 seed. Hopefully it doesn't come down to a Monday game though.

I wouldn't complain if Poche started on Friday.

Mainieri doesn't expect to have to pitch Walker this weekend, which is why he let him pitch so long yesterday.

Gilbert, Lange, Poche.

The question is the 4 seed starter on Friday.

They may also have Poche go 5 innings hoping he would be available Monday if needed.
