I hated the Orgeron hire and wanted him gone when he was let go, that said, I always say that sports aren't serious, just entertainment and he oversaw the most entertaining season of my lifetime. I got to experience it with my kids which made it even better. For that I will always be thankful.
I can block out the bad ending and say Orgeron.

Cholly Mac
On the flip side I thought Hudson Hallman was going to be a great hire and Firing Jack Lamabe was going to be a terrible decision, definitely wrong on both parts.

Coach O. It was 100% time for him to go but I'll always love him for 2019.

I'd rank Brady above Wade. Other than that season, it seemed like Brady's teams always built on prior seasons, with a stud in every class. Imagine if Bass had stayed for the Final Four season, or if Tasmin hadn't got hurt.

Wade seemed to piece things together each year, with a different guy being the difference maker every year.

First, this isn't really true. Wade teams always had at least two starters start consecutive years his entire tenure. Second, it was a very different era than what Brady coached in. Every single recruit wanted to be one and done during Wade's tenure. Third, every single year (not hyperbole) Wade lost a key recruit due to perfectly time hit pieces dropping. Hard to build a program when you are fighting the media machine at every single turn.

I look back and see people saying they don't care if we lose, they want a 300 yd passer and 40 pts, but hey, 10-11 wins every year makes that tolerable. I'd take ground-and-pound and the playoffs, over 2020 and 2021.
I liked Les. The problem with him though was his last 5 years LSU did not ground and pound their way into the playoffs. They instead wasted some of the most talented rosters in school history on 8-10 win seasons. All Les had to do was accept that the sport was changing like Saban did. If he did that, he's still coaching at LSU today and likely has a couple more national titles.

A season like 2016 still infuriates me. You have 20 NFL players on your roster, 18 of which were either starters or rotational players, and you start the year at 2-2. That's inexcusable. That was a national title level team and Les fricked it up.

Curly Hallman. I'm surprised no one has mentioned him.

I don’t think I understood the OP question at first. Curly Hallman was the worst coach that I hated. I think my favorite coach was Will Wade that got fired.

Coach O is the ultimate all or nothing guy. Survives a loss to Troy in his first full season to get to the greatest season of all time in 2019, then proceeds to have the worst two LSU seasons in 20+ years the next two seasons.

At least for the foreseeable future Wade will remain one of the biggest "what if's" among fired LSU coaches. That's because he is the only coach I can remember who was fired against the wishes of much of the fanbase (at least those who were fans of basketball)

Bertman and Saban left on their own accords.

Miles and Maineri had long, good, tenures, but at the end most felt they were underachieving.

Guys like Brady, Johnson, Jones, Orgeron, had some fluke great seasons. But on the whole none of them were special and it was clear they could not consistently repeat greatness.

Wade wasn't at the top of his profession. But he had LSU basketball winning at the most consistent level in three decades. And at 40 years old, I felt he was primed to seamlessly transition into the new era of NIL/unlimited transfers that older, more established HCs just didn't have much of a desire to participate in.

Jerry Stovall. Wonderful man. Kept LA players home for the most part and recruited NOLA better than anyone before him had done, him and Pete Jenkins.
One bad year and got canned by Broadhead. His talent set Arnsparger up for his two SEC Championships.

The one that gave us a college football season better than any of us could have ever imagined.

Coach O has more post season wins than Will Wade.
