I could see $2.7 if he meets all incentives. There’s no way $2.7M would be his base. Maybe base around $1.8M and $2.7M is he wins SEC and CWS. That would make a lot more sense.

Right. It doesn’t all have to be base salary. Incentives can also include baseball camps and a bonus for getting a National seed…?

Think yall may underestimate what it would take to get him. I think itll take at least 2 mil a year, probablt a little more

I think you are probably right. Tennessee athletics hasn't exactly been great over the last decade or so. This is the first time one of their men's programs has truly competed for a national championship in that time period (absent 18-19 basketball). Kind of like LSU in the early 90's, Tennessee fans are looking for something to be proud of. This baseball season was it for them and they probably don't want to let it go after just one year.

There is ZERO question in my mind LSU would pay north of $2.0 for a HC. shite, they just paid $2.5 for a WBB coach who while great, will NEVER generate a profit with that sport. Baseball has (at least) 10x the interest of WBB and actually CAN turn a profit. So paying over $2.0 is not absurd.

That said, I don't think Vitello is the guy who they want to pay that much. Woodward hasn't been afraid to open the bank for a coach. But in those instances the coach had a long history of significant success. Vitello has one great season. The $2.0 million+ number is there. But I think it is earmarked for another SEC coach in Tennessee

If a school is going to pay that much why not get someone worth it.

Idk he took Tennessee from lay in the East to third in year 2.

2020 he was 15-2 and had beaten Texas Tech and Stanford. So it seems like they were heading for a good season, and obviously CWS this yearZ

All while at a school with terrible baseball history. That’s a solid track record. Add in great assistant stints at TCU and Arkansas.
