A&M plays Bama followed by Ole Miss so we will know where these teams stand after that. One of those teams will be in a bad spot after that. LSU benefits from not playing SECW teams while things get sorted out so it's quite possible they will control their own destiny. I think Bama/LSU or A&M/LSU is likely to determine the champion if LSU can beat SC and Florida. Also, which team will Arkansas pop and will Auburn or Miss State pop someone big?

If I had to take a shot at the most likely surprises I would say:

Arkansas pops Ole Miss
Auburn pops A&M
Miss State pops Bama

Although it's hard to fathom any of these situations, I think the styles and date of the schedule lend these situations to be big upsets to could shake the landscape of the West.

I don't think LSU would consider any of the November games a true upset so I would say the most likely upset that nobody believes in would be South Carolina...although that's also difficult to imagine.

For the record, I called on SEC rant Ole Miss' loss to Florida after they beat Bama. I based that prediction on play style and what I gathered from Kelly's decision making. I would not predict any of the above statements with as much confidence, but I think they are all examples of games that could be surprisingly tough.

If I had to put money on it, I would probably say Bama as of now is most likely to win the west. We will know much more in just a few weeks.

BAMA

Their fluke loss against Ole Miss will motivate them through the rest of the season

It's gonna be Bama.

LSU might play them close but they will win.

I agree Bama, but this wasn't a fluke loss. Ole Miss beat Bama twice in a row and has the type of offense that can score on Sabans big defenses.

True. Unfortunately our offense plays right into their strengths and we have absolutely no plan B to exploit their weakness.

Gets frustrating. Bama lines up 260 lb LBs and 320lb DTs. So Les just runs right at them.

this

Bama only has 2, maybe 3 games on their schedule they could possibly lose. 2/3 are at BDS.

And the last two losses in TS to them... Lsu dominated the game, but lost to sub 2-minute drives at the end of the game.

Yes, they are big. Yes, lsu runs right at them. But it has worked, and may work again. Lsu has the whole month of October to improve. I'm not willing to right them off just yet.

The west is way to unpredictable (as seen just this past two weeks) to even come close to picking a winner of the division. Alabama would be the likely choice simply because of the over all depth on their roster, the talent within that depth, and the fact that they have one of the top 3 best coaches in college football. With all that being said, I personally didn't see Ole Miss beating them for the second straight year. And with that being said, I completely prededicted that Bama would then smash Georgia. Now I've heard people say the had no doubt Florida would beat Ole Miss, but I wouldn't believe for a second that there were any predictions that had Florida winning like they did. Back to the west...A&M will beat at least two teams they aren't expected to, and Arkansas will beat at least one, maybe two, they shouldn't win either.. As much as I would like to say it, I can't ...meaning LSU will lose at least one, probably two games. the schedule is just too tough, and Fournette cannot win every game by himself. Harris has to become a QB, or at bare minimum, a game manager, which he is neither at the moment. I cannot blame his failures completely on himself. Way too many dropped passes have not helped. DuPree sort of reminds me of Odell's sophomore year. He dropped a ton a of passes, but came back his Jr. Year, and well, we all saw what happened there. It just baffles me me to no end that a team as talented as LSU can't find a QB, or better yet, several QBs that can at least manage a game for us. Oh well, in the end, and my opinion means no more than anyone who tries to predict this crap, I see it as this in the west:

1. Bama
2. A&M
3. LSU
4. Auburn
5. Miss State
6. Ole Miss
7. Arkansas

Again, it's just a guess, like anyone else who tries right now. I mean hell, Arkansas could end up beating LSU, and Ole Miss, and that's just one of many types of crap, that could happen. But what do I know. I'm Just a Lifetime LSU fan who,has had the unfortunate pleasure of living in Ohio for the last 40 years! The only true and honest comment I can make is,that college football is by far the best sport in the world! It's my most ultimate passion, just behind my love For our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ,,and, maybe a great bowl of gumbo,or crawfish bisque!

By the way, if some of this didn't make sense, you have my apologies upfront. I just had brain surgery a week ago and I, still having some problems spelling, typing and seeing really small print. Overall, I'm not doing too bad. Thinks to all who took time to read this. And to the young punks tears who didn't, just go grab another neer and you'll fail out of LSU anyway and have to work a modest job like most of us. We actually look forward to giving you, that humbling experience. Bottom line...STAY IN SCHOOL YA FOOLS!!!

LSU (Loss to Bama) 11-1
Ole Miss (lose to LSU) 10-2
TAMU (losses to BAMA, LSU, Ole Miss) 9-3
Ark (losses to LSU, BAMA, OM) 6-6- 5 conference losses)
MISS ST (losses to BAMA, ARK, OM) 7-5
Auburn (losses to BAMA, OM, UGa, Ark, TAMU) 5-7

And they too will win a game or two they shouldn't. Point is, this is actually a GREAT year for SEC football. We may get burned by not having someone in the playoff, which will suck beyond belief. But, wow...what a league, and it's gonna be a hell of a lot of fun watching the rest of the season. Get your heartburn melds ready, and make sure you have good medical insurance, because heart attacks will happen!!

LSU plays to their competition and gets up for big games.

I get the vibe they will be a one loss team.

I think they beat Bama in Bama and beats Ole Miss on the road.

Now will they lapse against say an SoCar or Arkansas, teams that they will have early leads on and let them comeback and sneak out a victory???

I hope not.

obviously, it would be better to lose to an East team. I would be happy with that scenario.

I am with you on this. Hope we beat bama but, ...
I know we are talking the west but is anyone else worried about the gators? All that talk they have been making about dbu seems to have some merit. These guys dominated. I am really glad we don't have to play in the swamp this year.

I was so happy that bama pulled GA this year and they ended up being posers. Florida looks like the real deal.

Since its, you know, "typical" for Les Miles to lose games he shouldn't can you give us a few examples? He's been here for a decade so if he "typically" loses to teams he shouldn't this should be a long list....

were not beating bama. we'll run right up the middle and struggle offensively. miles will insist that his shembechler will win the battle of wills. we COULD be creative and occasionally spread bama out. use fournette in some one back sets. throw screens to he and guice. maybe hit leonard down the middle on delays. sorta like that one and only time we did it against ole miss. maybe flex out a jacory washington on a lb, utilize the te for safe throws. designed qb draws and runs. maybe trick play here and there. we wont dare throw over the middle for fear of the ghost of jarrett lee. we'll run fournette up the middle and put harris in 3rd and long, only to see the desperation heave down the sideline. we might run a fake on a fg thats 50+. nobody will see that coming.
