Interesting...I didnt think it was even close who did it first (I thought LSU had it years before FLA) But nothing really to back this up. I just knew we did it for years then finally heard a gator do it once, and ragged him, I remember saying, "Yeah real originial!"
I feel a little bad now, because I am second guessing who had it first due to others on here saying that Fla had it first.
Oh, and as much as I dont care for Fla, I do think it pretty cool when they do the JAWS chomp on kickoffs and whatnot (when not playing us). Why? I dont know, guess something to do with something lurking in water waiting to attack type thing.

Did you go to the BCSNC vs FL? Or have you been to a game at the Swamp? The damn gator bait cheer always gets stuck in my head. Da na na Da Ta Da GATOR BAIT!

Crap, I did it to myself.

I know LSU has been doing it at least since I was a kid which is about 40 years ago. If Florida has had it longer than that I think it's gone beyound just copying it and has become a integral part of the the LSU pre-game atmosphere.

I also like Florida's JAWS chomp. Heck, a Gator - Jaws, it just kinda makes sense. Then again I also like FSU's tomahawk chop so maybe its just me.

Same here. Personally I've never "tigerbaited" anyone. But I know I've heard it on campus since I was a kid in the 70's.

Really? Because I never heard Gator Bait until the 90s, and I've been hearing Tiger Bait all my life (that's since the early '70s) and my Dad has been hearing it all his life (that's since the '40s).

I know that it goes back at least to the 60's. Heard it in Tiger Stadium many times.

Don't know about Florida, but LSU's been doing it since at least the early 60s.

will this ever be settled? Im more confused now than when this thread started. I guess there is not a real way to determine. I imagine the reason I heard tiger bait way before i ever heard gator bait is in part b/c i live in BR and grew up a tiger fan, the opposite goes for gator fans i suppose. Any gator fans out there know when they first heard gator bait?

Just answer his question

If the guy wants to come on the rant he knows he will get a little ribbing. I don't think the reply was mean spirited. Just funny.

I can still hear that guy with the booming voice, I believe they called him "Big Red", yelling Tiger Bait. That goes back to the 60's. You could even hear him over the radio broadcast. Part of the atmosphere and mystique of Tiger Stadium.

I don't know but Florida's Mr. Two Bits and that "Come on Gators get up and go" are the gayest sounding cheers I've ever heard.

Matter of fact, most of Florida's cheers are pretty cheezy. They sound like junior high cheers.
