Safety is basically set with brooks and burns. However, at cb, it’s a wide open competition. Many ppl assumed Harris would immediately be that guy however Zy Alexander, deuce chestnut, and Welch have all impressed. Who do y’all see emerging as CB1 and CB2 by the FL state game?

Im likimg what i see in chestnuts highlights. He seems solid. With the new scenery and a real dline he might be better than we imagined

Chestnut has that veteran time and experience. You never know who steps up. Heard Welch has worked his arse off.

I think Harris is too talented to stay quiet for too long.

Right now it’s Zy Alexander. Kelly talked about him good over the summer and he was the most consistent corner on the field today

I’m hoping for a perfect storm of prepared, physically equal to the task teammates that uphold the requirements of history there. The head coach appears able to create that out of thin air.

We need it to be Harris. Welch has supposedly struggled in a bad way this summer so I’m not confident it will be him. I’m not sure who else could emerge

During passing drills with no pads, no real front 7? Let’s judge a RS FR off of that

Chestnut is Def an alpha.

Who knows if they give him a shot outside.

I like Welch and chestnut as alphas.

I think Chestnut rotates between outside and nickel. Definite starter somewhere. You’re gonna see a lot of Zy/Denver/Welch with some JK sprinkled in as well

I think Welch will take a spot I think chestnut will be a constant and stabilizing db hopefully harris can take his spot and chestnut is to good to take off the field so he moves to who ever is the weak link in the safety spots

It was not only the 1st day, but it f we played tomorrow, it’d be Chestnut and Alexander at CB.

I’m not so sure safety is set. Brooks ran with the 1st team at nickel. I think they’d prefer him there if another safety can step up next to Burns. Apparently they liked the 7th year transfer (I forget his name) at that spot today.

But the best thing is we have a lot of numbers and a lot of talent in the defensive backfield. I’m sure House will try out all kinds of combinations the next month until guys step up and take jobs. Even if they don’t, he’ll figure out the best combo that work and communicate the best. And if any struggle in-game, he’ll be ready to run a different combo out until he finds the best group. But it will be more of how they fit and play together more than just putting the 5 most talented guys out there.

And the young guys will continue to develop and get better. The 5 that line up against Florida State probably won’t be the 5 we finish the season with.

Chestnut can ball but his size worries me at corner in the SEC. LSU lists him at 5’11” but after seeing him in person he's probably closer to 5’9”.

LSU needs Harris to put it together

It is strange seeing LSU without that feared lockdown CB... They need to get this back.
