Exactly why Johnny Jones should be considered one of the worst basketball coaches ever. Dude was horrendous. To be fair as well, Blakeney and Sampson hadn’t really turned it on yet at that point in their careers. Blakney underperformed his freshman year and Sampson wasn’t much until Simmons left if I remember correctly. Quarterman and Hornsby were both good, it’s still a shame that team didn’t at least make the tournament.

He certainly gets his share of the blame and I don’t think there’s anybody who absolves him. However the guy is a tiger through and through and took a less talented team the year before to the tourney yet somehow the Simmons apologists ignore that and praise a guy who trashed the school on his way out

In the biggest win of the season Simmons spent the first half on the bench in foul trouble. The team was better without him
