re: Who are your top five backs in LSU history?

Posted on 8/25/15 at 10:48 am to geauxnavybeatbama
1. Billy Cannon
2. Charles Alexander
3. Dalton Hilliard
4. Jimmy Taylor
5. Kevin Faulk
6. Jeremy Hill
7. Jerry Stovall
8. Joe Addai
9. Johnny Robinson
10 Terry Robiskie
It is hard to stop at 5. Also hard to compare the newer running back by committee players (90's - today), to the workhorse backs (70's and 80's), to the two way players (50's - 60's).

I would not be surprised to see Guice emerge as another Dalton Hilliard.

Honorable mention: Jeremy Hill. Arguably the most talented and his 2013 season was possibly the best ever for an LSU back, but his body of work just isn't as big as the rest of these guys.
If you are talking about their body of work, yeah. I rated mine by who I thought was the best. 2013 Jeremy Hill was the best. A guy that strong with that much speed and agility is rare and I feel like alot of us don't realize just how good he was.

Come on, man. I'd say nearly everyone on this board would say "best" is determined by actual production, not merely physical tools or some subjective notion of who you "think" is best.
Heck, if we're using your system, let's just put Cecil Collins as no. 1.

Top 3
1. Cecil Collins, and it really isn't close, best I have ever seen in TS.
2. Hilliard, was awesome back in the early 1980's
3. Faulk, great all around athlete

Kendall Cleveland carried.
I'm not nominating him for the list, I just remember that on the PA system when he'd run for 1 yard
I also say screw your system – there's no such thing as best it's subjective. So here are my five favorite
1. Faulk
2. Collins
3. Rondell Mealey
4. Alley Broussard
5. LF7

Since the OP said LSU history, I was wondering how far back you want to go. Realizing it is difficult to compare players from the past era, I am not sure how the more recent ones compare to some of the guys from way back in time.
LSU's only Heisman Trophy winner ever, Billy Cannon, played running back--how could he not be one of the top 5? Also, for those who have read about the early days of LSU football, Doc Fenton was outstanding.
Plus, Steve Van Buren and Jimmy Taylor had outstanding NFL careers. And I am sure I have left some out.

Relative dominance in the time in which they played.
1. Collins (this isn't even close)
2. Cannon
3. Faulk
4. Alexander
5. Hilliard

72 career carries. 72. There's always the "what if" factor but putting him anywhere near a top-5 of anything in LSU history is laughable.

The point stands...."for the time i which they played." His 72 carries were more dominant than any other back's in LSU history.
