re: Which team is more popular in Louisiana

I love the Saints and mean no offense but what we have seen happen with the Saints popularity in recent years is a PERFECT example bandwagon fanhood. If the Saints would not have put together a few winning seasons and won a SB then this would be a silly question but with that very recent success people, especially in my area (Lafayette), are all of a sudden huge Saints fans. Couldn't tell you anything about the team before Sean Payton and Drew Brees got there but now they are the biggest Saints fan ever. Its laughable.

LSU football has 875,000 Facebook likes
The Saints have 2.9 million Facebook likes.
In anything actually measurable - tv viewership, merchandise sales, etc - the Saints will lap the Tigers but facts won't get in the way of people's hopes and dreams

Amazing how many people are just stating who they personally like more and not answering the question in the OP.

Anyone saying Saints is dumb. LSU and it ain't close. North Louisiana is a bunch of Yankee Dallas Cowboy fans

And lafayette is littered with Alabama fans. The Saints are more popular.

the bandwagon LSU fans are getting super defensive

This is why I come to the rant.
Its the Saints by a wide gap.

I know people who wore the paper bags proudly. Now they swear that the Saints are the best thing to happen to NOLA.

the paperbags were the diehards being funny during such a shitty stretch. The fact that they were there says they aren't bandwagon. The paperbag gag is missed on a lot of 'tards.

What I said was not meant to mean that I like LSU more than Saints just that the Saints recent serge in popularity is only due to their recent success. I cant tell you who is more popular in Louisiana today, sorry to disappoint you. My comment certainly hints that LSU is traditionally more popular. Reading comprehension is tricky sometimes.

I don't think this means what you think it means

Serious question? Saints
A harmless question at that.
It's a good question, probably a lot closer than many think. I guess if you live in N.O. you think it's a slam dunk but much of the state doesn't give a rats about the Saints and don't identify with them like they do LSU.

Popular in Louisiana. Saints.
New orleans, Baton Rouge, Lafayette, North Shore, Alexandria. Almost 100% Saints fans. But not 100% LSU. You've got USL, SeLU, Tulane, UNO, and other smaller schools that some people prefer over LSU.
ETA: I mean 100% of football fans. Bandwagons included.

Without a doubt...LSU
When the Saints won the Superbowl I would
say it was about even. Besides that one year,
it has been and always will be TIGER LAND!

You have one pro team in Louisiana and probably a dozen universities fielding football teams. The divided loyalties alone among the college teams dictates the Saints have far more fans than LSU.
Plus there are football fans everywhere who consider the NFL as the only place football is played and couldn't care less about the college game.
Its the Saints.

It is LSU by virtue of being the state university for well over 100 years. The Saints were born in the 60s and sucked balls until the 90s. Think about it, Billy Cannon's holloween run, the Chinese Bandits, the national title, 4 generations of fandom, all of that happened before anyone dreamed of an NFL team in Louisiana.
A lot of people like the Saints, but the deep-seated love passed from generation to generation isn't there. Plus anyone can go to a football game, but hundreds of thousands of people through the years went to school and graduated from LSU. The bond is completely different and there is no comparison.

Though I love both, I give the edge to LSU. I like the college game better.
