Prior to Drew Brees, two of the state's bigger cities, Lake Charles and Shreveport, weren't even Saints towns and regularly showed Cowboys games. It's always been LSU.
Drew Brees is just a winner, in every way.

LSU.
Prior to the last 10 yrs or so, the Saints were a team that Louisianian's held dear to their hearts but, outside of New Orleans, I don't think people were nearly as vested in the Saints as people have been for LSU. The whole "my team" thing is like night & day for most fans when it comes to NFL franchises vs college teams. I love the Saints & have always been a fan BUT I absolutely LOVE, CHERISH, WORSHIP, & at certain times, have done some pretty incredible things to see my Tigers play. I think that's the mindset of most fans. I don't have season tickets to Saint's games but I do have them for LSU & I wouldnt give up one ticket to an LSU game for a Saints ticket. Look around, as someone else mentioned, at the flags, bumper stickers, license plates, tshirts, etc & you'll see that Louisiana is visibly an LSU first state. Like most people I want to see the Saints win & be successful but if I had to make one of those "pick one or the other for life" choices, it would be LSU by a landslide.

I'll say LSU if you concider the whole state because the Cowboys are pretty popular up north.
I moved to Metairie about 5 years ago, and it's definitely Saints here. When people learn I am a huge LSU fan and have season tickets and all, I get the impression like they want to ask me "why waste money on LSU season tickets when I can use that money on Saints season tickets?". Like being a saints fan puts you in a more elite club.

I would say Saints have more loyal fans. LSU probably has the same amount of fans, but many are bandwagon fans. If LSU starts losing many will jump off the wagon. Saints fans have stuck with the team for many terrible years. I think it is dumb to compare the two though. Most are fans of both including myself. 2 totally different leagues. Its good for the state.

LSU easily...
You know why Baton Rouge doesn't have a pro football team? Because New Orleans would get jealous and want one too...
well, at least a few years ago that was true...

I'm a LSU alumni. I love my Tigers and Saints, but I feel the exact opposite of you. If I had to pick one team to watch the rest of my life it would be the Saints, no questions asked. I'd wager most LSU/Saints fans from the NOLA metro feel the same way. I've cried over one football game in my life and that was the Saints Superbowl win.

Up here in the northern expanses of the state:
Whites - LSU.
Blacks - Saints.

i actually think this is the exact opposite. when i moved down to la you had to look for saints stuff and no one seemed to care about then...by the time i left it was all over the place. keep in mind this was baton rouge, but almost every saints fan i know didnt care about them 10 years ago.

Yea but I'm pretty sure everybody did. That was a very rare experience.
I gotta go with LSU but like someone else pointed out, I think it's LSU for whites and Saints for blacks.
I'd be more interested to know who blacks pull for more in Baton Rouge: Southern or the Saints? Especially now with what appears to a be a resurgence with the Jags.

The NFL is much more popular than college football.
Saints>>>>>> LSU
Saints fans stay four quarters!

quote:Your impression is wrong. 90% of Metairie residents are LSU fans as well and many people drive up every Saturday for the games. Most of the working class in New Orleans can only go to Saints game because the travel and tailgating is too expensive at LSU

I'm a Saints fan and only a casual fan of LSU but the answer is LSU by a lot.
That's pretty pathetic if you think about it, but that's the answer.
