Looks like Ouray wasn't spared from the smoke from Wyoming either. Couldn't even see the foothills from Santa Fe Dr. at points yesterday.

Wish it was me also. Swapped out my timeshare in Pagosa Springs this year for Branson. Trip was ok but I regret it now.

I would stay in Telluride (Mountain Village) anytime of the year over Ouray, Durango, etc. - unless price is an issue. I don't think there is a more pampering place in SW Colorado than Telluride.

Love Telluride in the winter......great snow.

Would love to go for a summer visit.

Would not recommend going to Ouray on vacation.

Why not? There are much worse places you can go. I thought it as a nice town and don't need to be "pampered."

Denver smoke cover is from Wyoming fires.

Not sure where Ouray's is coming from.

Haven't made it to Ouray yet, I need to check it out.

Ouray was prominently featured in a classic book by Peter Jenkins called "A Walk Across America". Peter took 6 years to walk across the country and meet real people, not the types you see on TV. Along the way, he lost his dog (run over by a car), spent a summer in New Orleans, met and married his wife there, and spent a winter in Ouray, where he almost lost his wife as she slipped down an icy mountain peak nearly to her death. By the time he made it to the Pacific Ocean in Oregon, he was a dad-to-be as well.
Great book--I highly recommend it! Good also to see pictures from Ouray!

There were also some LSU fans in the room next to us on the first night.

We did Black Bear Pass in the rain yesterday. Borderline terrifying.

Amen. Some of the most beautiful scenery I've ever seen is up above Ouray. It's a great town, too. I wouldn't mind being down there now, but at the moment I'm up in the Vail Valley drowning flies.

Good many La transplants in Denver, LSU fairly popular with some folks up in CU, CSU, Ute territory.

Just got back from Englewood. Have always loved Denver, easily one of US' Top 5 to 10 cities. It's The Woodlands without humidity and mosquitoes. Has Palm Springs, Seattle, etc..very Del Webb-esque Sun City in aesthetics, and modern infrastructure on a large city-wide scale, even many of the older neighborhoods. Boulder too is very Palo Alto-esque.

Dare say Denver is very anti-Louisiana in terms of aesthetics, infrastructure, fitness/lifestyle, industry, education, eco-friendly, and in layout for it's future growth. Has far less of La's systemic problems and anchors, much more Fortune 500 Co's & prosperity.

It's not just the climates that are near polar opposites.
