1986 Final Four team.

A little piece of me died in the upper deck or Reunion Arena that day.

I was there too. Was feeling pretty good at halftime.

Seems like that 1986 is a popular pick! I wish I saw that team live as it happened.

If you haven't already, search youtube and you can find all the tournament games to watch in their entirety. Purdue, Memphis St, GA Tech, KY, and Louisville. Watch them all. Highly recommended.

Loved the 86 team, against all odds, they just kept winning, RIP. Don Redding.

Redden. He was a great player, fun to watch. Sorely missed.

It was the most incredible run by a college team I have ever seen.

Here's a good read about it

they beat a chalk bracket along the way—the #6, the #3, the #2 and the #1 all in succession and beating Georgia Tech in Atlanta surely made up for at least some of the break they’d gotten on the first weekend.

They were a tough team, no quit in them.

Didn't see your link Roger. Could you repost it? I think I know what story you're talking about.

1986 team might have been an 11 seed, but they weren't, not really.

Started the year with Taylor, Redden, Williams and Nikita Wilson, all guys who could take over any game and score 20. Nikita failed out and missed the spring semester.
Lost a 7 ft guy (Zoran Jovanovich) at Christmas break.

Then, team caught Chicken Pox and you had a stretch where you had Chris Carrier (a football player) having to play.

This was a 2019 Tennessee caliber team, that had the middle of the season napalmed, and was able to pull through enough to get into the NCAA anyway. And when we got there, we were almost back (still missing Nikita and Zoran) when we made the run.

Had that team stayed healthy and eligible, that was probably our year to win it.

Too often forgotten in these threads. That guy was a stud.

Blanton was a sophomore that season. Same class as John Williams. Blanton redshirted 86-87. Then played 2 more seasons, his last with freshman CJ in 88-89.
