1. Miles leaves for Michigan after 2007 title
2. Rich rod goes to Bama in 2006

Both were very close

Where would we be if Saban didn't blow smoke up our asses then jump ship for Miami?

Can't blame Saban for wanting to jump to the NFL.

Where would Saban be at if Miami had gotten Brees? Remember they passed on him for Donte Culpepper.

Well who was available in 2007 to replace him? For him to leave, he probably had to lose the SECCG or the BCSNCG...

Bama wouldn't have been a dynasty without Saban, that is apparent. UF would have another title in 09, Auburn probably would be close to another. LSU would be in the mix. Close only counts in horseshoes....

so you are saying had he said "I am very interested in leaving for the NFL" we would somehow have been in a different situation? The implication is he fricked us by leaving

That is a good one, as he very well might still be in Miami....

In retrospect I bet the admin would have liked to have let CLM go last season. Bring Jimbo in, shore up coaching staff, recruiting cycle, and get players like White, Pocic and Beck to stay.... Now we are likely faced with the same scenario, but there is going to be a mass exodus of Sr's/Jr's this season....and the recruiting class is 'exposed' all fall to poachers from other programs saying 'why pick LSU?'

3. An absolute miracle doesn't happen the last week of the regular season to get an inexplicable 2-Loss Les into the MNC vs. a weak tOSU team.

Or...

3. Oklahoma State beats Iowa State and keeps their #2 ranking going into the BCSNC in January 2012, and LSU stomps a mudhole in them and LSU wins it's second title under Miles.

Truth is...we'll never know, and speculating does nothing. Could things have been better since 2007 had Miles left and he was replaced with someone else? Sure. Could he have been replaced with a coach and things been worse. Yep...also possible. We've seen tons of examples of this. Assuming things would have been even better just because we're unhappy with what's gone on doesn't make them true...only wishful thinking.

We are where we are, and have been where we've been. Only question is where are we going and how best do we get there?

Atleast he would have been honest about it and it wouldn't have been a surprise. I'm not trying to imply that he fricked us. I'm just saying that things would be different if he didn't leave.

It's another hypothetical what if. They're useless, but interesting to talk about.

Idk what a coach is supposed to do. Are any of them honest about it when teams are wooing them? I hate the dolphins for making him an offer he couldn't refuse.

I still don't see how we settled on miles after having such a great football mind in saban

Face it - we are in the dark days.

Not the right time to be self centered.
Let's look forward to re-building the program
with a young , energetic, hungry HC

From what I remember there weren't many choices due to Saban quitting after the bowl game. All the big name coaching prospects had already signed on with new teams by then. I think that was the same bowl season that Meyer signed with Florida.

Can't blame Saban for wanting to jump to the NFL.Why not? Greedy is greedy. But the real blame needs to lie at his feet in choosing LSU's arguably most hated enemy for his greedy return to college ball after his short and undistinguished foray into the NFL.
