I’m never surprised when juniors leave to go get pain. And I think both ally stepped up late in the season especially Queen.

But I never got the sense that they were better than mid (3-5) round picks this year.

Is either projected higher than that

I think queen could go 2nd if does well at the combine, which I think he will. Had he came back I think he could have gotten into the first. Either 2nd or 3rd for him.

Phillips prolly 4th

Maybe Phillips. Queen is going to be a very good NFL starter.

Interesting
I would have thought Phillips projected higher than Queen.

Queen was almost a liability early in the season

Supposedly, Queen's stock is moving up after the championship game and the fact that he's more in line with today's NFL LB with his speed. If he tests well, I could see him going in the 2nd-3rd round much like Kwon Alexander. Phillips seems more like 3-4 round guy but his film will be impressive because he tackles and will be physical in run support.

I don't blame Queen. He's striking while the iron is hot.

Phillips is an odd one. I think he needs another year, but what do I know. He did log the most tackles on the team (and maybe the SEC - if someone can confirm), but he doesn't appear to make any big plays. He was bad at over rushing the QB, he's a liability in pass coverage, and he wasn't a bone crushing hitter. I remember Etienne running through him during the NC.

I agree with you. I know Phillips is supposedly projected as a "middle round pick". If I had to pick one EE into the draft that wouldn't be selected at all, Phillips would be my guess. I never saw the speed myself, even for a bigger LBer, that would be needed in the NFL. IF he could have become a little bit faster via workouts in college for another year, IMO he should have come back. At best, he is a 3rd day pick.

Lol I just posted this in the LSU guys leaving thread. Queen is athletic and fast but hasn’t even started a full season and Phillips just doesn’t do it for me. Queen late 2nd or early 3rd round. Phillips 4th or 5th round. Both should have stayed but good luck to them and thanks for the championship

Phillips "is who he is". he's a good sized thumper and sure tackler, but not much that great laterally or in coverage. another year isn't gonna change that. and I say that as one of his biggest fans.

He has the right words but the wrong rounds for several of these guys. Charles will not be a 3rd/mid. Scouting community sees him as a late rd pick at best. Drug suspension concerns will ding him hard. He DEFINITELY should have stayed.

I see Queen as a 2nd/3rd and Phillips as a 5th. Phillips should have stayed because he has the body and this would have been his LB corps if he did. Probably could have played himself into day 2.

Charles must have just said frick it I am going pro. The suspension is what will do him in with NFL. Toby Weatherby (spelled wrong) comes to mind when it comes to juniors leaving early. Good luck to Charles if he would have stayed and played the full season I think he would have gone early 2nd round.

Queen has more to gain by coming back than any LSU player that left. He would be a first rounder next year. He really came into his own these last few games.

I think Patrick queen will go higher than people think. I can’t get the images of him running down Travis Etienne out of my head. He reminds me of Debo Jones.

I don't know about that. Helaire looks a hell of a lot quicker and faster than he did last season. Pass that "rabbit juice" over to J Phillips. IMO, he worked on his speed from his SO to JR seasons.

Don’t be shocked if Queen moves himself into a top 60 pick. His speed is real. He’s the prototype teams are looking for now in a 4-3 MLB or WLB but he’s also proven he can play the 3-4 and play it well so his versatility will only help him. When I look at Queen I see Debo Jones and Kwon Alexander. He’d be an excellent pick for the Saints after the first round if they decide too early on from AJ Kline. A LB corps of Davis, Queen and Anzalone would hands down be the most athletic unit in the NFL.

Charles will go mid rounds as a Guard. NFL won’t draft him for LT which is where we were forced to play him

I don’t blame them for wanting to get paid, but especially for queen, a great season could’ve landed him a first round pick with some more publicity

I see Queen as solidly in the 2nd round. He will put up very good combine numbers in addition to playing fast and making plays on the field. Don't know that another year would have done much for him as he is what he is, which is pretty dam good, but not such a physical freak of the magnitude of a Devin White to make him a 1st round selection
