Where did “Geaux to hell, Ole Miss” come from? Interesting article on the history

Saw this link on Dandy's this morning. Pretty good stuff.
Magnolia Bowl: The history of the LSU-Ole Miss rivalry
The rivalry became known as the Magnolia Bowl in 2008, complete with a trophy, when students from both schools voted because the magnolia is the state flower of both Louisiana and Mississippi.
LSU and Ole Miss first met in 1894, a 26-6 Rebel victory in Baton Rouge
“Geaux to hell, Ole Miss”
The legend goes two ways.
One says that prior to the 1959 matchup between the two teams, LSU coach Paul Dietzel hired a plane to litter the campus with flyers saying “Go to hell, LSU” to motivate his team. Not to be outdone, Ole Miss coach Johnny Vaught did the same thing to motivate the Rebels with flyers saying “Go to hell, Ole Miss.”
Another version of the story claims that Dietzel and Vaught littered each other’s campuses with the respective flyers instead of their own.
Whichever way the story happened, at kickoff in Baton Rouge, Tiger Stadium was packed with LSU and Ole Miss fans alike screaming “Go to hell!” at each other and has continued to be like that ever since.

don't know, but as far back as I remember, after every game, no matter who we just played or who the next opponent was, everyone would chant "go to hell Ole Miss" on leaving the stadium(until recent years of course)

True story: My dad was expelled from LSU for climbing up the scaffolding of the PMAC while it was being built, and spray painting GTHOM on the roof of the PMAC for OM week.

He definitely was. Passed away of brain cancer in 2006.

I graduated from Miss State in '85. My entire time there, at every home football game, the student body section screamed in unison "Go To Hell Ole Miss!!!" after the pregame prayer. I hope they still do.
The memories bring a proud tear to my eyes.
frick them. GTHOM!!!!

Heard the MS people saying it long before I heard LSU hanging
heard the MS yelling it, one before I heard LSU ranting

When I was a kid, we used to got to the McNeese (dad was a grad) vs. USL game every year and the chant was "Go to hell USL go to hell". Even had a banner on the interstate overpass around Jennings or Iowa that read it going westbound from Lafayette.

When I was in school in the 70’s, the chant could be heard every season at the end of every home game prior the Ole Miss game. The week of the game included a massive panty raid on the girls’ dorms, food fights in the cafeteria and the MDA marathon football game on the parade ground,

I remember Shouting "Go to hell Ole Miss" and "Kick their arse" as a little kid unaware what i was saying back in my childhood days in tiger stadium

Meh. It’s not the same rivalry it was. I wish those ridge runners would go back to being the rebels. The black bear stunt was awful but this landshark business is atrocious. I remember watching Deuce & Joe Gunn running all over Lou Tepper’s “defense”. At least there was plenty of back & forth with that chant. The last time they came to town it was meek & mild. Hardly felt like a SEC game, let alone LSU/Ole Miss. I did enjoy laughing @ the beyond video game capable stats St. Fournette was putting up that night though.

Wow how original. First they steal Geaux from LSU. Then steal Geaux pokes from Oklahoma state. Then they steal go to Hell from LSU. Nice
