re: When’s the last time it was acceptable to lose to Bama?

It probably has more to do with beating a ranked UF on the road and a top 10 Auburn at home and Ole Miss on the road. 3 straight SEC wins.
And if we hadn't lost to State and Troy this would be a top 10 matchup just like it has been for most of the last 7-8 years.
But, your boy O had to shite the bed against a bad State team and a Sun Belt team. Now we are just "hoping and praying" that we can keep it close.

2012 was last time any reasonable person thought we could win based the teams being even. Bama has been far superior since
Posted on 10/23/17 at 6:09 pm to UpToPar
There is not one game the last 6 years against LSU that Bama didn't think they could win... LSU has had maybe two that they thought they had a chance....
A total different mentality... that is just what you get when you know you are better than the other team.....

bullshite. We went into the 2015 Bama game undefeated and ranked #2. There were plenty of people that thought we could win that game.

He can't because that data was not included in the article from PFF crowning us #1 in all of the land. Also absent from the provided stats were:
- 3 games of 0 rush TDS
- 3 games of 1 offensive TD total
- 1 game of 0 offensive TD total
- converting only 14 first downs on 205 total offensive yds; giving up 3 tackle for loss, 2 sacks, 2 qbh in a loss
- converting only 14 first downs; giving up 8 tfls, 4 sacks and 7qbh in a loss
- converting only 6 first downs on 125 total off yds; 9 tfl, 5 sacks and 3 qbh in a loss
Of course, anyone with half of a brain can understand that LSU won the award for the best line because of their road grading efforts against inferior opponents which boosted their metrics.
- 418 rush yds v. Missouri
- 311 rush yds v. OM
- 390 rush yds v. Ark
- 298 rush yds v. aTm
60/40 Rush/Pass split
I have pointed out numerous times that 3 of the starters from last year are no longer at LSU and that #1 OL award sits right next to all of UptoPar's honorable mention ribbons and participation medals.

Many people thought that LSU had the pieces in place to win 10 games a year and thought that with some creativity on offense LSU should be challenging Bama for the SEC West every year
Name a few of those people who thought this. Thanks?
Spoting News:
1. Alabama Crimson Tide
14. LSU Tigers
AP Top 25:
1 Alabama(52)
13 LSU (0)
Coaches Poll:
1 Alabama(49)
12 LSU (0)

Orgeron was held by many to be able to do just that.
May be able to. You quitting in year one?
quote:
It's pretty obvious after the Troy and Mississippi State games that he isnt.
You did quit. Try catching the last 3 LSU games on youtube.

Should that get him fired?
Beating a ranked UF on the road and top 10 Auburn?
quote:
It won't this year because our AD is an idiot
Never should have hired Will Wade. It is so obvious that was a horrible hire.

But, that doesnt change the fact that the goalposts have shifted.
Yep, EVERYBODY expected LSU to be undefeated right now and win the national championship. Why else would they be ranked as the #1 team in the country in EVERY pre-season poll?

Not to mention that in 2013 we looked to finally have the offensive weapons to challenge them, especially after Mett carved them up in 2012.
Would have still been an upset, but that doesn’t stop the Miles bashers from talking about how he wasted all of that NFL talent with that crew.
So they certainly must have thought we had a chance to win, although no one ever accused them of being reasonable

I've asked before but never got an answer. It's clear that you don't like O and shite on him every chance that you get.
In a perfect world and for the record, who would have been your realistic choice leading the team this season? I have a strong feeling that I already know the answer.

We don't have selective memory do we?

Keep what close? The Bama game? I'm hoping LSU wins. You're pulling for the loss. Understandable.
Keep crying and being miserable. I tried to do it Sunday morning but I couldn't quit smiling thinking about the 16 point win on the road at Ole Miss.

In a perfect world, we would have conducted a legitimate coaching search. This would include going after the big names (which we did in Herman and Jimbo) and interviewing other candidates if and when those bigger names turn you down. We did step a, we failed to do step b.
But, to more directly answer your question, I think we would have had a realistic shot at guys like Fleck, Gundy, and Brohm, and I would take any of those three over Orgeron.

quote:People act like it's our job to decide who the best choice for HC would be. It's not. It's Alleva's. What we expect is that do diligence is done and they look at all candidates. Not that they get scared because of possible negative press and make a snap decision. This is the future of LSU we're talking about, and the process was done very poorly.

Going back 7 years:
2010- #12 LSU vs. #5 Bama
2011- #1 LSU vs. #2 Bama
2012 NC- #1 LSU vs. #2 Bama
2012- #5 LSU vs. #1 Bama
2013- #10 LSU vs. #1 Bama
2014- #14 LSU vs. #4 Bama
2015- #2 LSU vs. #4 Bama
2016- #15 LSU vs. #1 Bama
So, only 3 out of the last 8 games have not been a top 10 matchup, and every one of the last 8 has been at least a top 15 matchup.........until this year.

Alleva dodged two bullets. Imagine LSU fans hating him when his head coach is 6-2. What if they were paying over $7 million for a 2-4 Jimbo or over $5 for a 3-4 gay guy?
Jimbo was ready to throw down with a fan Saturday. Said he was taking up for his players and didn't even realize the fan was knocking the shitty coaching and not the players.

Great coach and is 1-3 in the Big 10 this season with a great 7 point win over 2-5 Illinois. Very impressive. If LSU could only be 1-3 in their conference.

One has a NC under his name and the other took over a bad Texas program.
Orgeron was a career 10-25 coach when we hired him. In no world did Orgeron have a better resume than Jimbo or Herman.

He's the coach at Minnesota. A little more difficult to win there, dont you think? He also hasn't lost to a team as bad as Troy.
What do you think of Gundy and Brohm?

Oh shut up about the damn goal post already. There's no goal posts that have been shifted. Etling isn't going to beat bama with the team we have at this time if ever, they have a better QB, equal but more depth at running back, better WRs, better front 7, better OL, and that's about it.
Our team is young at LB, doesn't have the depth at DL, young at safety, young at WR, OL, but if O keeps brining in the talent he did last year, then we will be better off in the long run. The loss to Troy or State had nothing to do with our coaches, it had more to do with the players mind set and you can say that had something to do with O's inexperience as HC, but you can see that it's a different team now with the same coaches. All these guys are learning how to coach with this team and new staff. They are learning and need to learn quickly. If they do that and O changes things that aren't working, is willing to accept the things that are working, and continues to bring in talented players, that he has a feel for then LSU will be fine.
You can say what you want about the man, but he has a real talent for recruiting great players, whether they be 5* 4* or 3*. He gets the best he can get and helps them to become men. This isn't a perfect world, now our fans need to let the man do his job, quit bitching like little girls, and watch what happens. If all he does is stock the roster, and keeps us competing every year then at least we'll have some depth for the next coach to work with.
We have some good QBs waiting in the wings, the best I've seen in a while here. We will have some good OLman soon, the front seven will be much better off once we have two REAL NTs, our TEs will get better, WRs will grow, along with our safeties, and LBers. Once that all comes together, and we have this same staff in tact, I'll bet money we will then beat Bama, and here come the Tigers. Be patient and paranoia isn't good for anyone.

There is never a time when it is acceptable to lose any game regardless of the opponent or the circumstances. You play to win, not to accept a loss.
