The Welcome to Death Valley was LSU doing. if you have it you copied it.

Tiger Rag has been played at LSU since 1926. Clemson started in 1942.

Hold that Tiger was written by LSU band director in 1940. But now Clemson plays it.

So who is coping who?

I will have to look that up. "Welcome to Death Valley" is in Memorial Stadium...has been I don't know how long.
I am sure several things are copied from all sorts of places. Just wanted to know WHEN did LSU start referring to Tiger Stadium as Death Valley and not Deaf Valley. If no one can answer, so be it. This wasn't a "troll" or anything. Good luck in yall's bowl.(would love to go to Tiger Stadium for a game some day...)

Go Tigers!!!

Guys, we looked all of this up a few years ago. Stories going back to the 40’s with LSU Tiger Stadium being referred to as Death Valley (opponents dreams come to die). Became common in Times Picayune print in the 1960s. Deaf Dome was the moniker that the PMAC picked up early in its existence. In the early 80’s, a single reporter mistakenly used Deaf’ interchangeably and started the debate.

In reference to LSU/Clemson, Neither started because of the other and Clemson’s has historical significance going back to the dead 49ers. Clemson has also more fully embraced the dual moniker. Shoot, they even have a graveyard - it’s pretty cool.

LSUTigermall,
Thank you. I drove around LSU's campus one day just to see Tiger Stadium, Mike the Tiger and such. Beautiful area! Went to eat at Walk-On's...(this all was about four hours out of our way during an 18 hr drive..but worth it.)

Go Tigers!!!

I grew up in Baton Rouge and have always known it to be Deaf Valley. The Maravich center was know as the Deaf Dome. I believe the switch happened in the early 90’s because people didn’t like deaf being used that way. Both are accepted even though it no longer resembles the pandemonium of its past. I can remember leaving the game with my ears ringing.

For sure, we referenced all this stuff a few years back before our game in Atlanta. Like to forget that one ??. At the time, it was fun looking it up. We had one guy combing through microfiche.

Go Tigers! Stick it to the gumps.

I think you are confusing two sports. The LSU Basketball team played at the "Deaf Dome".

I can tell I have hit a nerve with that simple question due to the down votes.

If an LSU fan asked the same question on a Clemson board you'd get the same result

If you're referring to the sign, maybe so. The question is who called their field "Death Valley" first. As much as I hate it, Clemson did first.

Dude, I have followed college football since I can remember. Really started in '88/89. I KNOW LSU tried to call their place DEAF valley (because it was/is so loud)...never....NEVER heard Tiger Stadium refered to as anything other until about 4/5 yrs ago on College Gameday...Rece Davis said it. Gamecock fans THEN started crap saying LSU's was DV.....just to get under our (Clemson Tigers) skin.

They could poll 100 college football fans the day after Clemson won back to back titles and 90 of them would say that LSU is what comes to mind when they hear Death Valley.

LSU has never been referred to as deaf valley. I've been attending LSU games since 1958, and it's always been Death Valley. Not sure when it started, though.

TS was known as Deaf Valley when I was a kid; there was even a Deaf Valley Shell station on the corner of Highland and State Street.

Not sure when it started being called Death Valley.

I went to LSU in 1970. There was no Deaf Valley then. There was no Shell station @ Highland and State then. Tiger Stadium had been known as Death Valley for years by that time.

Dale Brown started calling the Assembly Center Deaf Dome after his teams began to draw large and very loud crowds mid 70s to 80s. Somebody picked up on that and started referring to Tiger Stadium as Deaf Valley.

I don’t know how long Clemson has called its stadium Death Valley. LSU’s Tiger Stadium has been called that for at least 50 years, but I don’t know if that was something LSU used officially or if the sobriquet was something used only by the media and fans.

When did Clemson start playing that shitty version of Tiger Rag?

(Hint: LSU first used it in 1926, far long before Clemson)

False

The South Endzone clearly says “Welcome to Death Valley.”

This replaced the underwhelming sign under the West upper deck.

Neither sign ever read “Welcome to Death/Deaf Valley.”
