This needs to change.
Yes it does, not sure if it will. I would like to think it might next year with Mett as the QB, because he loves the TE, but not sure if it will be up to him. One would think it would come live game play. All I know is that Chase has been open plenty of times this year and the QB's have not be able to get the ball to him.

It's because the rb/te are not the First... or Second progression.
Additionally, throwing crossing routes, screens, etc would require our qb's to read the defense, throw passes into traffic, and risk creating a turnover. We don't need to do any of these things to win.
Les Miles Strategy: Be only as complicated as is needed to win. With this team, that's a very simple offense.

Not since Flynn was hitting Dickson have we included the TE a decent amount.
slight tangent, but didn't Travis Dickson, also a TE, make a catch on Sat, too.

Also, Clement is a much better blocker. When Peterson is in, it is an obvious passing situation which limits some of his effectiveness.

Yep and he will be a good one before he is done. Chase has told me that he has all the tools to be great.

We don't throw to rb's or te's. Are passing game to be nothing but stuff over 20 yards
You watched many games this year? We run TONS of curles & comebacks. Routes that are definitely not 20 yards +. We ran them bigtime against Oregon, State, & have only gone vertical when we get the right looks from the Secondary based on how they defend our North/South Power Formation Run Game, which has been a lot recently.
I agree that we don't throw to the RB, though we finally hit Ware Saturday Night. D-Lo has had a few drops, but he's also been a focal point, as someone else stated, when he's in the game. Oh, and by the way, Russian & Clement bot have TD catches, and Clement had a great grab with a nice in-air adjustment on a poorly thrown ball Saturday, as well. It should've been a TD if thrown properly.
So, again, are you watching the games, bro?

Clement has surprisingly good hands and is a much better blocker than DP. It's easier to sneak a pass to CC than DP. People key on him when he is in.
This is perfect. If true our offense should have multiple options with the Defense focusing on 1 player. Keep Peterson on the field and pick them apart with draws and middle field screens as DP runs the LBs downfield and out of every play.

Has a BCSchamp ever gone a season without a 200 yard passing game?
When did teams stop running the wishbone?

I think no matter who starts at TE, they're going to put up similar numbers. When Peterson was hurt last year, Mitch Joseph caught a number of passes early on. Now Clement is grabbing a couple a game. Peterson may be a great athlete, but so far, LSU TEs have put up comparable stats recently

I do not believe he is a true playmaker. He has bad hands and does not do anything with the ball once he does catch it. He is a very average player.
Too bad because he looks the part

I'm holding out hope that the next two years, with a true Qb, we'll have a chance to see what Shep, ODB, Landry, et al can do.

Should we hate him too Ryno?

When was the last time a TE really factored into the passing game at LSU? It has been awhile

We've had several this year.
If you mean average/game, then bama had 188 in 2009.

Never really understood why.
Miles' Big 10 style of football doesn't really take advantage of the TE as a receiver. All Miles cares about is that he can block.
We seem to throw to Clement more when JL is in the game. Richard Dickson could've been an All American, but he was badly underutilized during his time at LSU.

Big 10 teams use the TE. and if any team is known for it, it's Michigan. including the time when Les was there as an asst.

Dickson was utilized as much as any LSU TE in recent memory in 07 and 08. not sure what happened in 09. the easy answer is JJ, but he was JJ's top target in the games late in 08 when JJ took over.
some games we emphasize throwing to the TE (JJ almost had 100 yds passing to Clement and D-Lo alone against Ole Miss last yr/ Mitch Joseph was having a good game against UNC), and the rest it seems like we forget about em. I've never quite figured it out.
